The Health Department’s Clinic Services Bureau is seeking permanent and temporary Medical Assistants to work in a fast-paced environment to provide direct patient care, physician support services, assistance with medical examinations, basic laboratory procedures, operate an electronic medical record program (EPIC), schedule appointments, and register patients in one of the Monterey County Health Department clinics. The clinics are in Salinas, Seaside and Marina and provide family medicine, women’s health, internal medicine, pediatric, behavioral health, and specialty services. The Temporary Medical Assistant (Temp MA) positions include opportunities to work within the clinics as described above or to work in conjunction with the Clinic Services Quality Improvement (QI) team to improve health outcomes and performance metrics for various clinics Work will include patient outreach by phone / video / text, patient scheduling, lab and referral order follow up, completion of screening questionnaires, coordination of patient care with outside agencies, identification of patient barriers to care and follow up actions required, as well as extrapolating and updating data in the clinic Electronic Medical Record system, EPIC. Examples of Duties THE IDEAL CANDIDATE Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Thorough Knowledge of: Vital signs, including normal temperature, blood pressure reading, and respiration of healthy adults, adolescents, children, and infants. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods, practices, and procedures. Working Knowledge of: Outpatient patient procedures Appropriate equipment required in performing specific medical procedures. Basic medical and nursing terminology. Proper operation of electrocardiograph equipment. Policies and procedures employed in intake, transferring, and exiting a patient. ABOUT THE POSITION The Library Assistant positions are utilized in the Information Services, Literacy Program, Shelving and circulation Unit, and Technical Services. An ideal Library Assistant should have experience working in public libraries and should also be familiar with QuickBooks and Eden, with experience managing budgets of at least $2 million. This is the entry level class in the library paraprofessional series and may be assigned to the following areas: Information Services performs reference service using a wide variety of books, videos, compact disc, and magazines. The unit also plans and implements programs for children and youth from preschool age through 12th grade. The Literacy Program provides free, confidential literacy instruction for any adult, eighteen (18) years of age and older, in the Downey area; to encourage family literacy; and to encourage lifelong learning. Shelving & Circulation Unit supervises shelvers and circulation aides as they return work to the circulation desk, return materials to the shelves, monitor the Library and assist patrons with equipment. Technical Services performs acquisition, cataloging and processing of library materials and maintenance of the library's bibliographic utility. This is the entry level class in the library paraprofessional series. The class is distinguished from the Senior Library Assistant class by the duties performed according to broadly defined procedures and under general supervision. The Downey City Library is a community centered public library committed to serving the informational, educational and recreational needs of the residents of Downey. QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education, training, and work experience to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position is qualifying. Major Duties Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician engages in human genomics research, and is primarily responsible for supporting faculty, keeping all experiments running in the research lab, and training students (research assistants). Major Duties Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician engages in human genomics research, and is primarily responsible for supporting faculty, keeping all experiments running in the research lab, and training students (research assistants). The successful candidate may have a demonstrated record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and be actively involved in research in a closely related field. In particular, we are interested in individuals who are passionate about undergraduate education, and who are capable of teaching a wide variety of undergraduate courses, including organic and inorganic lecture and labs. This visitor will also have the opportunity to engage students in research. The position will involve teaching inorganic and organic chemistry lectures and lab courses, general education courses, and upper division capstone and elective courses. The total assignment each semester is 12 weighted teaching units of lecture and laboratory. In addition to teaching this position will have academic advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work and program assessment, and may be expected to assume campus and school-wide committee responsibilities. Professional Qualifications To be recommended for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, the candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in chemistry by the time of appointment. We are seeking enthusiastic and passionate candidates with a background in inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry or closely related field. Rank and Salary Service credit depends upon academic preparation and professional experience. The anticipated salary range for this position is: $72,000-$75,000.
