HOURS: Monday - Friday / 7:00am to 4:00pm

Starting salary $ 50,668.80-64,625.60

PAY GRADE:Â G19Â


This classification performs advanced engineering tasks related to area of assignment, i.e., performing and overseeing road, traffic, drainage, utility, or electrical engineering projects, etc., which require advanced knowledge of the specialty area. Position has considerable contact with County officials, contractors, engineers and other professional contacts and requires excellent public relations skills.

Job Description

Essential Functions

Oversees the coordination of County-wide drainage, road, traffic, or utility studies; works with consulting engineers on development of these studies.

Reviews and provides comments/suggestions regarding implementation of new regulations by the County and State pertaining to drainage, transportation and utilities.

Effectively plans and oversees activities, which may include training, of technical staff assigned to the unit. (Certain positions designated as "supervisory" will also be responsible for completing Employee Performance Evaluations for assigned staff.)

Researches, prepares and/or reviews construction plans, applications and permits for road, drainage, traffic, utility and electrical construction projects.

May oversee construction and inspection of construction work to ensure compliance with specifications and codes.

Reviews and researches development projects for compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Code and County design standards.Â

Provides testimony for public hearing projects and aids in the preparation of staff reports.

Researches, prepares, and/or reviews applications for concurrency and supporting traffic/infrastructure analyses.

Reads and interprets complex engineering plans and specifications; conducts engineering research, field studies, inspections and plan evaluations; performs complex engineering designs.

Communicates clearly, effectively and tactfully, orally and in writing; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.

Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field.Â

Minimum of three (3) years engineering experience related to area of assignment, or may accept Engineer-in-Training certification with two (2) years experience related to area of assignment.Â

Valid driver's license with valid Florida driver's license.Â

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Position Specific

Â
Performs a variety of functions to support the Regional Traffic Management Center Manager involving day-to-day planning, organizing and coordinating operations and activities associated with the Sarasota-Manatee Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC).

Assist the RTMC Manager with the general oversight of the RTMC Operators to facilitate smooth and balanced operation during the assigned shift.

Includes administrative functions concerning the RTMC operations such as, shift scheduling, training, and Âregular coordination with the County's Traffic Engineering staff in implementing the signal and system timing plans to improve the regional traffic flow.

Operate the Central Traffic Management System (ATMS.now) and Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) devices such as, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, Vehicle Detection Sensors (VDS), and Bluetooth Travel Time Measurement Devices (BlueTOAD).

Using these ATMS devices, assist the RTMC Manager in tracking and documenting performance measures as adopted in the RTMC Operations Manual.

Experience Desired/Preferred:

Experience with Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations, traffic signal timing development and implementation, and use of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) devices. Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and traffic engineering principles and standards.
