The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) provides a broad range of programs, services, facilities and park amenities within the City and County of Denver. The City's park system encompasses approximately 250 urban parks, parkways and natural areas, totaling nearly 6,000 acres. The department also boasts more than 14,000 acres of pristine mountain parks, eight golf courses, 24 lakes, 73,888 trees, more than 80 miles of trails, nine off-leash dog parks and over 300 athletic fields. The recreation system includes 28 recreation centers, 16 outdoor pools and 14 indoor pools serving over one million visitors annually

About Our Job

Utility Workers - Facilities Maintenanceperform avariety of unskilled, routine work and light to heavy physical labor in support of various construction, maintenance, repair, and operational functions for Denver Parks & Recreation's network of facilities. These positions will work for one or more of the following functional teams: painting, carpentry, graffiti removal, plumbing and electrical.
This position will report to the North Jason shop located at 4495 Jason St., Denver, CO and will work at various facilities located throughout the City and County of Denver

Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs unskilled, light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects that involves physical exertion and the useof manual tools and limited use of small power operated tools.
  • Assists skilled trade workers by performing minor repairs to buildings and facilities including painting, plastering, carpentry, plumbing repairs, and simple elementsof electrical systems such as replacing faulty switches and outlets.
  • Performs minor repairs to equipment such as portable paint spray rigs and pressure washers.
  • Operates light weight equipment powered by small engines used for maintenance, cleaning, and minor construction projects.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection on equipment for such things as fluid levels, leaks, condition of hoses and belts, tire pressure, brake lights, and related areas and secures,cleans and cares for all tools and equipment needed for job assignments.
  • Performs exterior maintenance duties including graffiti removal, painting, HVAC equipment cleaning and cleaning of exterior lighting fixtures.
  • Observes all common safety practices associated with operating small engines, hand and power tools and other work related equipment.
  • Utilizes hand operated equipment such as power saw, jig saw, power drill, hand sander,paint spray rigs, and Hotzy pressure washer.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is an on-call position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. This position will work an average of 39 hours per week.

About You

Our ideal candidate will be a self-motivated professional who is able to guide less-experienced employees, and will possess strong communication skills with an emphasis on safety considerations. Enjoys working outside, enjoys working on a wide range of equipment and must be able to work holidays and weekends, as needed.
  • Various maintenance, motorized equipment, and hand powered tool experience
  • Experience with one or more of the following functional areas in facilities construction and maintenance:
    • Plumbing
    • Electrical
    • Painting
    • Carpentry
    • Graffiti removal
2 years (or 2 peak seasons) or more of Parks Maintenance experience
