Job Summary Under the guidance of the Director of Academic Technology Services and the Innovation Space Architect, the Junior Innovation Space Technician has experience in 3D printing and provides consultations to faculty and students on projects that involve various technologies within the ISPACE. They are accountable for maintaining and ensuring the optimal condition of all equipment used within the ISPACE. In service to the university, the ISPACE technician collaborates with various college departments to serve all students and faculty across disciplines and colleges. Key Responsibilities Consult with Faculty and Students -These consultations include the use of additive and subtractive manufacturing equipment such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and waterjet, immersive technologies including AR/VR/XR, motion capture and 360 video. Oversee Operation and Maintenance of Equipment - Develop and implement a comprehensive equipment maintenance schedule for major/annual overhauls. Supervise Student Assistants - Maintain and enforce policies and procedures for student employees. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team. Knowledge in additive manufacturing. Demonstrate project management skills for technology-based projects. Capable of utilizing various 3D modeling design software (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Fusion 360, Rhino, etc.} to review print requests submitted by students. Familiar with laboratory safety practices. Experience with developing user-oriented documentation including web-based documents. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Education and Experience • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, Communications, or related technical field required. PREFERRED: • Associate degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Game Art Design or Computer Science (preferred) or related fields. • Hands-on experience 3D printers. • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of 3D printing and scanning. • Experience with 3D slicing software • Experience in 3D CAD modeling design software • Experience with virtual reality (VR) devices • Must be available to work evening and weekend hours. Key Responsibilities Performs comprehensive support services for all instructional laboratories in the Department; organizes and manages the operation of the Physics and Astronomy Issue Room. Works effectively as a team with other instructional and administrative support staff.
