About Our Job
The Department of Technology Services is currently accepting applications for a Desktop Support Technician Internship. This opportunity is available beginning May 2019 with the potential to extend into the Fall. This is a part-time internship requiring 16 - 28 hours per week. Hours/schedule flexible around the intern's school schedule and within the hours of 7:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday.

The Intern will assist and work alongside the Technology Services (TS) Operations Supervisor and Desktop team members. This team services City and County of Denver (CCD) employees with issues related to their general computer technology support to all internal users' devices such as laptops, desktops, and surface devices. Respond to requests for technical assistance via phone or electronically (tickets), assisting end-users on various hardware and software problems.

As an intern, you will get to experience the following:
  • Installing and repairing desktop hardware and software; installs/uninstalls wireless device and data systems; and processes work orders for wireless device and data users
  • Performing technical support in a formal or informal help desk setting to users with complex and non-routine hardware and software problems, which includes: logging, troubleshooting, testing, adjusting, resolving, or referring problems to the appropriate Technology Services resource
  • Acting as a liaison between user group and the Technology Services unit to communicate problems and possible solutions
  • Researching new technologies and procedures to meet the needs of users in various agencies or city-wide
  • Providing training to user groups on how to identify and prevent problems
  • Works with other professional TS staff to develop and maintain technical procedures, documentation, and operational instructions and/or project or work order status
  • Collaborating with other TS staff to test in-house or vendor developed software and software upgrades for user requirements and documents errors or discrepancies for corrections
  • Maintaining computerized inventory of wireless device and data equipment and specialized services for users
  • Remotely resolving user technical issues using various remote desktop tools
  • Accepting and unpacking large quantity technology assets (computers, monitors, printers, etc.), tags equipment, and adds to computerized inventory system
  • Performing additional projects and or duties as directed by the Desktop Support supervisor by request

  • Education requirement: Current enrollment in a college program leading to a Bachelor's specific to the departmental and/or work assignment
  • Continued enrollment in a college program is condition of employment with the City
  • Experience Requirement: None
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment


About You

Our ideal intern will have/be:
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's program working towards IT related field
  • Knowledge of Windows based computer systems, technical knowledge of hardware
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills along with excellent teamwork skills
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adhere to procedures and maintain accurate detailed records
  • Must demonstrate commitment to solving user problems
  • Proven to take responsibility for assigned tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
