Current vacancy is with the Health & Human Services Agency located in Visalia. This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Health & Human Services Agency. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months. Typical Duties Contact various groups of clients in person, by letter, telephone or through community outreach activities to inform them of the need and availability of preventive health services; review and verify family health concerns, financial status and eligibility for medical services; document, make referrals, and maintain case records of patients and families; establish and maintain files of individuals referred for follow-up, treatment, transportation and further services; assist patients in obtaining needed follow-up, under the supervision of health staff, by scheduling appointments and arranging transportation; assist clients with completing various forms and provide clarification of forms if needed; meet and work with other agencies and community groups to perform outreach services, including public presentations; assist with preparing letters and reports; may assist with clinic duties such as taking the patient’s blood pressure, weight, and working in the immunization clinics; with registered professional direction and training, apply safe and correct methods to transporting samples of bodily fluids and waste; collect and handle samples of human fluids and waste; transport clients to services; obtain information through interviews; explain health services and programs to clients. Employment Standards Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Experience : One (1) year of experience in community health programs or a medical assistant or certified nursing assistant certificate. Knowledge of: Correct use of punctuation and grammar in all forms of communications; proper communication methods and practices for all forms of communication. Skill/Ability to: Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles, and behaviors of both clients and co-workers; read and understand technical material; communicate clearly and effectively in all forms of communications by using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling; learn basic medical or health terminology; learn and understand HIPAA rules and regulations; perform basic math functions sufficient to complete department paperwork; assess situations timely and objectively and determine proper course of action; provide and perform effective outreach activities; follow verbal and written instructions; effectively work independently and in a team oriented environment; maintain current records of client status; remain flexible to changes in workload and work schedules; prepare and present information to groups and individuals; operate a computer and other office equipment in the completion of daily tasks and assignments; work with a variety of activities and multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate and valid California Driver’s License.
