Operations Division - 2 Positions The Special Operations Group is part of Operations Division at Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant. We are the maintenance arm of Operations as well as filling in for the liquids group as needed. The Operations Intern, with guidance and under supervision, will learn about: The wastewater treatment process; Wastewater treatment equipment and machinery; The Portland collection system and its wastewater pumping stations; Working with professional wastewater operators as a team. As an intern, you will learn how Tacoma Power operates by gaining hands-on experience while supporting and assisting with various utility operations related to fisheries operations on the Cowlitz River. This position will assist others in completing a variety of fisheries management activities and provide tours to visitors through the award winning Visitor Center, while showcasing Tacoma Power’s commitments in fish recovery efforts. The City of Foster City has an opening for a Engineering Intern in the Public Works Department . The position is part-time with flexible scheduling, up to 980 hours per fiscal year, and no benefits provided. The department is interested in candidates for the summer or candidates who can start as soon as possible. Important and Essential Responsibilities: Daily responsibilities will include works directly with the Public Works staff, populating the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database, and performing indexing and data entry. Other duties may include providing project assistance to technical and engineering staff related to capital improvement projects, researching, CAD drafting, plan review, data collection and analysis, permit issuance, and compiling information from various sources, and providing administrative or other support in the Public Works Department. Education and Training Guidelines: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be: Education: Graduation from high school. A degree or degree in progress in Engineering program in a school or university is required. Experience: No experience is necessary; 6 months of paid or documented volunteer experience in a municipal agency is desirable. Licenses, Certificates, Registration: Possess a valid California Driver's license with a good driving record. Salary will be determined by experience and education. Ideal Candidate An ideal candidate would have knowledge of engineering principles and practices; use and applicability of personal and online computer systems and related software applications, including GIS and Auto CAD; applicable records and file management systems. Efficient in operation of computer equipment. Ability to: perform data entry, indexing, and mapping using computer systems, including GIS and Auto CAD; understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
