Monterey County Animal Services is seeking one part time Animal Care Technician I (ACT I) to work 20 hours per week at our animal shelter. Under immediate supervision the incumbent receives training to perform the full range of duties in shelter maintenance and animal care. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic and the desire to learn and grow in the position.
The ACT I's key responsibilities include: receive animals surrendered or impounded in the shelter; identify and maintain records of surrendered/impounded animals; provide daily feeding and care of animals housed within the shelter, including routine exercising of animals; perform daily disinfection and cleaning of animal kennels and cages; maintain clean laundry and dishes (towels, blankets, water and food bowls, etc.) for use in kennel; and assist with animal adoptions.
The Eligible List established by this recruitment process will be used to fill current and future vacancies, both regular and temporary, as they arise in the Health Department.Examples of Duties THE IDEAL CANDIDATE Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

- Safety principles, practices and procedures associated with animal handling and restraint of a variety of animals, including those, which may be ill, injured, quarantined, aggressive or difficult to control.

- Humanely and safely handle frightened, injured, ill and/or aggressive animals.

- Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record or ability to provide suitable transportation approved by the appointing authority; and
