The City of Tacoma's Finance Departmentis recruiting for the position of Tax and License Field Auditor. This position performs professional accounting duties in the auditing and investigation of taxpayer compliance with City Tax and License Ordinances.

Field Auditors will:
  • Determine audit issues, scope, depth and appropriate examination procedures.
  • Discover unregistered businesses.
  • Review and analyze financial records; verify gross income; determine the correct amount of business and occupation taxes due to the City.
  • Conduct audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, the Tacoma Municipal Code, applicable State and Federal laws and prevailing court decisions.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive audit reports and present audit scope and reasoning used in reaching decision.
  • Create working papers and other supporting documentation.
  • Review requests for tax refund and issue determinations.

Tax & License Field Auditors work in an office environment. Work may include driving to various customer locations to perform audits on an infrequent basis.

Graduation from an accredited college or universitywith a four-year degree in finance, business administration, accounting or a related fieldandtwo years' experience in professional accounting reviewandauditing work including experience in revenue auditing.

Valid Washington State driver's license with maintenance thereafter

Appointment is subject to passing a background check. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and Local 117. New employees must successfully completea nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.
