Creates and implements customer education programs and campaigns. Coordinates and creates customer outreach programs to inform the community of the Districts operations, goals, and objectives. Monitors developments and legislation related to assigned areas of responsibility; evaluates impact upon District operations; recommends and implements policy and procedural improvements. Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures. Oversees and participates in the development and administration of the department budget; reviews, revises, and writes complex financial and data reports; approves the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary. Explains, justifies, and defends department programs, policies, and activities; negotiates and resolves sensitive and controversial issues. Represents the Customer Services Department to other departments, elected officials, and outside agencies; coordinates assigned activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations. Provides staff assistance to the Assistant General Manager of External Affairs; participates on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence. Minimum Qualifications Education: A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration or a related field from an accredited college or university. Experience: Seven (7) years of (full-time equivalent) verifiable professional customer service program administration experience which must have included at least (3) three years of management responsibility. The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is committed to increasing the City’s capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters. The position is part of the City Manager’s Office and works closely with the Assistant City Manager, Deputy City Manager, and Public Engagement Manager, as well as the Police Chief and other Police personnel, and key staff across other departments such as Public Works and Library and Community Services. Menlo Park provides a highly collaborative environment and multiple departments play vital roles in emergency preparedness activities. The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator ensures city staff are trained in emergency preparedness standards and at regular intervals, creates and implements emergency preparedness plans, and collaborates with agencies in the region to ensure the city maintains strong relationships in the emergency management field.
