The Job ** THIS IS A CONFIRE POSITION ONLY ** CONFIRE is a separate entity from San Bernardino County and the Fire Protection District. CONFIRE JPA is recruiting for a Communications Director to direct, manage, and coordinate the operations of the Communications Division. CONFIRE, JPA is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) located in San Bernardino County California established to provide communications, dispatch, computer information systems support (IS), and geographic information systems (GIS) to CONFIRE member and contract agencies. The CONFIRE Communications Center's (Comm Center) primary function is to provide 24-hour/365 day direct fire, EMS, and rescue dispatch services to CONFIRE agencies. Beyond the direct fire dispatch role, Comm Center also functions as the San Bernardino County (XBO) Operational Area dispatch, which provides large incident coordination for fire, local government, and emergency medical resources on a countywide basis. This position is in the Unclassified Service and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. EXCELLENT BENEFITS!!! CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Background: A successful background check is required prior to assignment. Travel: Travel within and outside the County may be required. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided at time of hire and maintained throughout employment. Health and Physical Condition: Candidate selected for this position must successfully meet the pre-employment safety, health, and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties established by CONFIRE, JPA, prior to assignment. Desired Qualifications EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years experience as a manager or supervisor in an emergency communications center that is responsible for dispatching and monitoring emergency personnel to fire, law enforcement, emergency medical, and/or mutual aid situations, and/or five (5) years experience as a full-time Chief Officer and Company Officer with a fire agency. --AND-- EDUCATION: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in Emergency Management, Public or Business Administration, Police, Fire Safety, or other relevant field. Substitution: One additional year of experience may be substituted for the educational requirement; --OR-- a relevant degree may be substituted for one year of the experience.
