May perform other duties as assigned. • Rescues distressed swimmers using rescue techniques and equipment in an indoor municipal pool setting. • Examines injured persons and administers first aid or CPR, if necessary. • Contacts emergency personnel in case of serious injury. • Patrols or monitors assigned area of indoor pool and ensures that all safety and health rules are being followed. • Teach Learn to Swim for youth and seniors using approved agency modules; track progression using resources provided • Completes and maintains records. • Maintains quality of pool water by testing chemical levels. • Facility maintenance including but not limited to: cleaning restroom toilets, sinks, urinals, showers, floors, office areas, pool deck, entrances and walkways. • Warns swimmers of inclement weather, unsafe areas or safety infractions. • Assist with Camp Best Friends operations outside of pool as requested • Inspects safety equipment e.g. Life rings, extension poles, emergency stretchers or accessories, emergency medical kits, personnel lifts to ensure that all are in good working order. • Report deficiencies deemed unsafe for pool operations and/or that may cause harm to patrons Decision Making • Follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. Leadership Provided • May oversee less experienced lifeguards.
