Summary/Class Characteristics Part Time Airport Ramp Attendant NOTE: This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Hours may vary and will not exceed 29 hours per week or 1000 hours per fiscal year. THE POSITION Under general supervision of the Airport and Marina Manager, this position performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and operations of airport facilities and grounds. THE LOCATION The Petaluma Municipal Airport is operational 24 hours a day and staffed Monday through Sunday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm including holidays. Airport operations encompass a host of services for the orderly and safe departure and arrival of aircraft to and from Petaluma. A self-fueling island is operated 24 hours a day by the City to meet the needs of users. Jet fuel service is available during regular hours and after hours for a call-out fee. Approximately 60,000 take-offs and landings are recorded at the Petaluma Municipal Airport each year. There are 180 aircraft storage hangars and 130 tie down spaces for 240 based aircraft. Duties Perform a variety of general tasks involved in the safe, efficient, and orderly operation, maintenance, and security of the Petaluma Airport. Maintain overall appearance of airport grounds and facilities, including the removal of obstacles from runways and approaches, controlling weeds and trash pick-up. Reports the need for grounds and facilities maintenance; personally performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of airport facilities, buildings, equipment, and landscape such as weed and grass control, minor painting, trash pickup, and electric bulb replacement; inspects airport property regularly and ensures that grounds and facilities are kept in a clean and orderly condition. Operate and perform minor maintenance on light equipment such as tractors, pickup trucks, mowing equipment, and other related equipment. Inspect runways, taxiways, lights and other airport facilities for hazards, needed repairs, or replacement: notifes Airport Manager of hazards to airport operations to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner. Ensures that airport users follow safety and operating rules and regulations during an assigned shift. Collect and account for overnight fees, fuel and oil sales. Dispense fuel to aircraft and assist customers with purchasing fuel and oil. Provides information to the public and airport users regarding FAA regulations and local policies and procedures regarding ground traffic, air traffic patterns, fuel operations, parking, tie down, hangars, airport facilities, and safety rules and regulations. Conducts ramp checks for overdue aircraft. Maintains accurate records and files regarding work performed and airport activities. Maintains records on airport supplies, facilities, services, and equipment utilization including traffic, hangar rental, fees, and airport supplies. Receives and processes complaints such as noise abatement resolving situations when able, providing information and maintaining accurate records for referral when applicable. Notifies proper emergency response organizations in the event of an emergency and provides assistance as directed. Operates fire extinguishers during aircraft emergencies. Assists in locating the source of Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signals. May be on-call in the event of an airport emergency. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school is required. College or technical level coursework is highly desirable. Experience: Candidates who have previous experience working with or around aircraft, have some experience performing light repairs on equipment, building, and irrigation, and some experience driving and operating larger equipment (e.g., tractors) will be rated as most highly qualified for the position. Certificate and License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.
