Advance Practice Provider- Ortho Surgery Dept Lbk Lubbock 36882BR Position Description Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician. Major/Essential Functions The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is looking for a Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to work out of UMC's Emergency Center. We are looking for someone to start around July 1, 2024 . Job functions include: Provide patient services in the emergency center and hospital under direct supervision and responsibility of orthopaedic physician. Work closely and in collaboration with TTUHSC orthopaedic residents. Respond timely to calls and pages for patient consultations. Examine patient, perform physical examination, compile patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Elicit patient history. Order diagnostic tests, such as x-ray and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal. Perform therapeutic procedures including fracture treatment and wound care. Coordinate discharge plan including discharge orders and follow up care. Instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance. May render emergency medical service without supervision, pending the arrival of a responsible physician, in cases where immediate diagnosis and treatment are necessary to avoid disability or death. Exhibits professional and courteous behavior with patients and families. Proactively assists others as needed. Required Qualifications Education : Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. License/ Certification : Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Education : Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. License/ Certification: Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
