Position Summary: Under the immediate supervision of the permanent captain of the Cal Poly Humboldt Research Vessel Coral Sea, this position maintains the vessel at an operational level, and may relieve the captain when the captain is unavailable and provides instructional support of Marine Science at sea. Key Responsibilities: Under the direction of the captain, supervise deck crew, students, faculty and others. Supervise and actively participates in all, but not limited to the following procedures and does so in a safe and professional manner while adhering to industry standards and good seamanship while the vessel is at the dock and underway: operation, maintenance, cleaning, repair of all machinery, surface preparation for painting the interior and exterior of the vessel. Actively facilitates, demonstrates, and participates in all onboard safety training, including but not limited to fire, person overboard, abandon ship, collision and flooding. The incumbent Supervises, plans and/or performs vessel paint projects while directing crew and student assistants in the surface preparation and application of, but not limited, to paint products such as Alklyd, anti-fouling paints, oils, 2-part epoxies and urethanes. Supervises and coordinates major mechanical maintenance, repairs and retrofits of mechanical and electrical systems by outside contractors, during repairs and maintenance of, and ensures the completion of repairs and maintenance of diesel engines, diesel generators, air compressors and air receivers, hydraulic power systems (both electrical and power driven) with pumps, motors, valves, and hydraulically equipment such as cranes, winches and windlasses. Preforms and/or supervises crew in implementing, facilitating and following a strict daily, weekly, monthly and yearly Preventive Maintenance Program (PMP), and ensures documentation of all PMP activities. Ability to take charge of the vessel as captain during the absence or unavailability of the fulltime captain. May require serving as chief mate on cruises in excess of 12 hours. Position Description The Minneapolis Convention Center (MCC) is a relationship building. The Operating Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance and performance of technical work on physical plant facilities, including electro-magnetic controls, pneumatic systems, HVAC systems, overhead doors, water coolers, refrigeration, plumbing, life safety and security equipment at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Upholding high standards of customer service, independent judgment, and professionalism are required for this position. Work Location: This position currently works on-site only. Job Duties and Responsibilities • Operate and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment. • Read blueprints, electrical and related diagrams, to help locate problems. • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electromagnetic controls, pneumatic systems, HVAC systems, overhead doors, grill gates, and water coolers. • May perform brazing, soldering, gas/or arc welding cutting, swaging, and flaring. • May change, modify, or replace pumps, motors, valves, dampers, pipes, condensers, heat exchangers, and make proper alignment adjustments. • Replace belts, and align fan motors to sheaves and shafts. • Insulate piping and other heat exchange surfaces. • Clean mechanical spaces, supply air diffusers, deflectors, fan intake, screens, dampers, heat exchangers, and air and water refrigeration condensers. • Make estimates and keep records of all time and materials and order materials and submit reports. • Caulk building interior and exterior as required. • Grease and oil machinery, service cable winches, and pump and clean sump pump pits. • Read and complete event program assignments, including operating environmental control systems, filling and emptying tubs and pools of water, and setting and connecting portable sinks. • Conduct building tours to inspect facility and equipment and make reports of findings. • Layout and install cabling for sensors and controls. Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor work with exposure to chemicals, dirt, dust, heat, etc. Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience: Two years of experience in building operations maintenance with experience with large systems. Position Description The Minneapolis Convention Center (MCC) is a relationship building. The Operating Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance and performance of technical work on physical plant facilities, including electro-magnetic controls, pneumatic systems, HVAC systems, overhead doors, water coolers, refrigeration, plumbing, life safety and security equipment at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Job Duties and Responsibilities • Operate and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment. • Read blueprints, electrical and related diagrams, to help locate problems. • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electromagnetic controls, pneumatic systems, HVAC systems, overhead doors, grill gates, and water coolers. • May perform brazing, soldering, gas/or arc welding cutting, swaging, and flaring. • May change, modify, or replace pumps, motors, valves, dampers, pipes, condensers, heat exchangers, and make proper alignment adjustments. • Replace belts, and align fan motors to sheaves and shafts. • Insulate piping and other heat exchange surfaces. • Clean mechanical spaces, supply air diffusers, deflectors, fan intake, screens, dampers, heat exchangers, and air and water refrigeration condensers. • Make estimates and keep records of all time and materials and order materials and submit reports. • Caulk building interior and exterior as required. • Grease and oil machinery, service cable winches, and pump and clean sump pump pits. • Read and complete event program assignments, including operating environmental control systems, filling and emptying tubs and pools of water, and setting and connecting portable sinks. • Conduct building tours to inspect facility and equipment and make reports of findings. • Layout and install cabling for sensors and controls. Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor work with exposure to chemicals, dirt, dust, heat, etc. Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience: Two years of experience in building operations maintenance with experience with large systems. Licenses/Certifications: Must have, and maintain as current, a Class 2-C or higher MN Boiler Engineer License. Valid Drivers license.
