The Position Development Technicians fabricate, maintain, calibrate, repair and modify a variety of electrical, mechanical and computerized equipment and computer systems used in support of academic research, data gathering, analysis and teaching; and specialize in two or more technical areas such as electronics, mechanical devices or computer systems. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is within the Network Transport Services Unit and located in Elko. Incumbent is responsible for operation and maintenance of inside and outside-plant infrastructure directly supporting remote mountaintop microwave communications facilities throughout Nevada: Shelters, Towers, Propane Generators, Automatic Transfer Switches, AC & DC Power Systems, Solar Systems, Air Conditioners & Heating systems, dehydrators, access control, and IP cameras. Requires knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles. Performance of duties requires frequent backcountry travel to remote communications facilities around the state and requires operation and maintenance of 4WD trucks, ATV's, snowmobiles, snowcats and on occasion may require the use of a helicopter. Position works 4-10's alternative work schedule and works in association with other Development Technicians and IT Professionals to ensure reliability of the statewide microwave communications network. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
