Position Description Be part of the City of Fresno's new Animal Center Department! The Director will be part of the collective and strategic planning in staffing the new state of the art clinic and developing the program, while embodying the goals, innovation, and animal care compassion that the City Manager envisions for the center and the community. Reporting to the Office of the City Manager, the Director will oversee the day-to-day activities of the center, providing oversight and support in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures, and managing current issues and priorities. A Master's degree is highly desirable. Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment. Incumbents may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed. Position Description Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying 911, emergency, and non-emergency calls for service; inputs calls into computer system; operates a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer aided dispatch systems; and performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties involved in the preparation, maintenance, and release of materials related to law enforcement activities. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The 911 Call Taker is the entry level classification of the Dispatcher series, which consists of the 911 Call Taker and Dispatcher (Entry Level and Lateral). The 911 Call Taker is distinguished from Dispatcher which is required to dispatch units and coordinate the responses of emergency personnel. While a background in similar tasks/duties may be helpful to the incumbent, direct experience in a police dispatch related environment is not necessary. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and may be eligible for advancement (reclassification) to Dispatcher-Entry Level if the incumbent meets the qualification standards of the Dispatcher Entry level classification, demonstrates an ability to perform the full scope of the work, has passed the probationary period, and meets performance standards. FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM (FRS) The Florida Retirement System is a retirement plan designed to provide an income to a vested employee and his/her family when the employee retires, becomes partially or totally disabled, or dies prior to retirement. A defined benefit or defined contribution option may be chosen by the employee. Employees are required to contribute 3% of their salary per Florida Statute. TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The County may provide tuition assistance to cover the cost of tuition and books to County employees requesting tuition reimbursement for courses at an accredited college or university which are applicable to the employee's field of work and/or are of such nature to directly prepare employees for positions of greater responsibility within the County.
