Position Summary Under direct supervision of the Director of the Basic Needs Center and the Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT), the Basic Needs Assistant Coordinator will be trained in providing support to the department through various means including: assisting with the administrative aspects of the department's front desk and Center’s programming space, inventory tracking of basic needs items, support to the programming efforts of the area, organization of the department files/policies/procedures, support with establishing written procedures for the Basic Needs Center, low-need case management for students’ basic needs, and general assistance with administrative duties of the Basic Needs Center. The Assistant Coordinator may, at times, be responsible for collecting information from students facing basic needs insecurities in order to assist in receiving ECRT assistance. This position will be trained to serve as the initial point of contact for students in search of support, guidance, and information related to basic needs, ECRT, and Well-being and Health Promotion services. This role will be trained to assist various ECRT staff with responsibilities as needed which may include assisting with events, training, and programming in the Basic Needs Center. This position will support the basic needs of students at the San Diego, Imperial Valley, and Global Campuses. With the start of the fall 2022 semester and opening of the Basic Needs Center, heavier student traffic, and an increased workload associated with post-pandemic issues these staffing concerns put the Basic Needs/ECRT department in a challenging position. As such, ECRT is going to need additional support for our programmatic and administrative needs, through the hiring of an Assistant Coordinator (SSP IA). Position Summary Under direct supervision of the Director of the Basic Needs Center and the Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT), the Basic Needs Assistant Coordinator will be trained in providing support to the department through various means including: assisting with the administrative aspects of the department's front desk and Center’s programming space, inventory tracking of basic needs items, support to the programming efforts of the area, organization of the department files/policies/procedures, support with establishing written procedures for the Basic Needs Center, low-need case management for students’ basic needs, and general assistance with administrative duties of the Basic Needs Center. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following : Provide expertise in athletic training services for CSUMB’s NCAA DII Intercollegiate Athletics program, including but not limited to baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, softball, soccer, volleyball, track & field and water polo. Provide athletic training room, game and practice medical coverage of intercollegiate teams as needed. Assist the respective coaching staff in designing and implementing rehabilitation, return to play, and conditioning programs as appropriate. Prevent, recognize, and assess athletic injuries. Implement preventative and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments. Monitor all injury reports and rehabilitation plans and progress; advise and consult athletic administration on all major injuries and treatments not covered by the student-athletes insurance. Ensure proper maintenance and confidentiality of all medical records and follow insurance processing and procedures. Provide work direction to other Athletic Trainers, including assisting in employee selection, scheduling and assigning work, reviewing work of other Athletic Trainers, and providing input to performance evaluations. Ensure needed coverage for practices, home events, and team travel. Consult with physicians on injuries and treatment plans; coordinate rehabilitation and return to play progressions with student-athletes and coaching staff. Develop and recommend program policies and procedures to the athletic administration for implementation, ensuring compliance with provisions of the NCAA, OSHA, and HIPAA. Develop and monitor athletic training program budget, including equipment and supplies for the athletic training facility. Oversee the maintenance of athletic training facilities and equipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of: the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning and injury prevention, injury assessment and rehabilitation; the full range of therapeutic modalities and their practical use and physiological basis; other therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, bracing, and massage; determine the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals; effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment; rules regulations and guidelines established by the NCAA, CCAA, and CSUMB, pertaining to student athletes, their training, sports medicine care, and health and safety; Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling Blood Borne Pathogens; maintaining medical records, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards; and following insurance standards. Comprehensive knowledge of the Athletic Trainer II. Working knowledge of campus human resource practices and payroll procedures; campus budget and related administrative processes and procedures. Knowledge of effective lead techniques and practices. Ability to: professionally and effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity; develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs and manage and treat injuries; use the full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments and rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries; determine the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals; recognize life threatening situations and administer the appropriate emergency aid; use a computer to accurately perform medical, insurance and other recordkeeping functions. Ability to demonstrate the skills and abilities of an Athletic Trainer II; exhibit the organizational and administrative abilities necessary to develop and coordinate a sports medicine program; establish program priorities; provide work direction and training to other Athletic Trainers; promote teamwork to optimize effectiveness; develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies; develop and monitor program budget; ensure rehabilitation objectives are achieved and medical records are secured as confidential, accurate, and complete; and ensure accurate maintenance of insurance records and billings. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Equivalent to three to four years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer with progressive responsibility, including at least one year of experience in a lead capacity with some responsibility for program administration and some experience at the college level. Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. SPECIALIZED SKILLS : Upon hire must possess and maintain BOC Certification in Athletic Training and be certified in CPR/AED (cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation) for the Professional Rescuer and first aid. Must participate in all OSHA required training and adhere to the related policies and procedures as required. Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University's liability coverage. Proficient in the use of personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above. Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize and present information and ideas in written or presentation form; train others on new skills and procedures; communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both oral and in writing, to include reports, correspondence, and graphical presentations. In addition, incumbents must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and to serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians and other health professionals PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Masters degree in Athletic Training or related field of study. Some experience working as a certified Athletic Trainer at the college level.Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Experience in supervision and instruction of student athletic training interns. Proficient in the use of programs such as SportsWare Injury Tracking software. Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google email and calendaring software, or equivalent.
