Note: This is an open continuous recruitment due to multiple vacancies within the bureau. The first review period will include all applications received from June 20th through July 11th at 11:59PM and will be reviewed every 2-3 weeks moving forward.

About the Position: The City of Portland currently seeking multiple Police Desk Clerks to join Portland Police Bureau. Police Desk Clerks assist sworn members of the Bureau by accessing and supplying confidential information and providing administrative support. De-escalation techniques and ability to remain calm are essential, especially in highly volatile situations. This essential classification requires a Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) certification within three (3) months of hire. Training and certification will be done on site.

Schedule: Some Police Desk Clerks work in a 24-hour facility, which may require working day, evening or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays in addition to emergency response. Positions are in the three (3) precincts (Central, East, and North) within the Police Bureau. All Police Desk Clerks will work 4-10 hour shifts (with 3 days off) after training has completed.

  • Perform multiple tasks and administrative support while dealing with frequent interruptions
  • Access a variety of computer systems to provide support to officers and the public
  • Research , retrieve and report information as needed
  • Carry out individual responsibilities with initiative, independence , and creativity

To Qualify

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position and your qualifications for each must be described in detail when responding to the attached Supplemental Questions.

  1. Experience applying effective conflict resolution techniques in critical or stressful situations and the ability to remain calm and professional with upset community members
  2. Experience managing a dynamic workload including using various multi-tasking skills.
  3. Experience utilizing written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail including the ability to communicate rules, regulations, and/or procedures to properly inform the public.
  4. Experience using multiple computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Edge, and other databases and ability to provide information to officers and the public as appropriate.
  5. Ability to apply an equity lens within all work and relationship build with community members from diverse backgrounds

Applicant Must Also:
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 per City/State mandate or have an approved exception by date of hire.
  • Marijuana Use: As a non-sworn position, candidate must not have used Marijuana (not including CBD) within 3 months of application
  • Possess the ability to successfully pass an in-depth background investigation.
