Job Description and Duties SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (SUPERVISORY) - CHANNEL COAST DISTRICT/SAN BUENAVENTURA STATE BEACH The reporting location is the Channel Coast District in San Buenaventura State Beach, 911 San Pedro Street, Ventura, CA 93001. This position works under the direction of District Superintendent II. The position supervises the natural resource teams that are responsible for a wide variety of functions in natural resource management and environmental compliance. Duties include supervision of the natural resource maintenance, fire management, tree safety, and pest management programs. The position is responsible for environmental compliance under the California Environmental Quality Act, grant applications and administration, management of natural resource stewardship projects, training of district staff on environmental issues, interagency communications on environmental issues and integration of the Natural Resource core program with other core programs of the district. This position may supervise and/or manage the District Cultural Resource Program. This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. Job Description and Duties SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (SPECIALIST) - FACILITIES & DEVELOPMENT / NORTHERN SERVICE CENTER The reporting location for this position is Sacramento, CA. This position will work under the direction of Environmental Program Manager I. The Senior Environmental Scientist will serve as the lead Subject Matter Expert on botanical issues as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This position will be responsible for habitat assessments, the most sensitive plant species surveys, and wetland delineations; independently completing environmental review and permitting for department projects; and providing technical and professional expertise and direction on natural resource management issues to District, Headquarters and Service Center technical staff upon request. The position will involve travel and field-based survey work around Central and Northern California. It requires a moderate level of independent action, the ability to identify and solve complex project-related issues, and the ability to make sound recommendations for project improvement. The position requires excellent plant identification skills for both native and non-native species found in Northern California, familiarity with rarity rankings and state and federal listings for sensitive plants and vegetation types, and experience with botanical field methods and protocols for surveying and monitoring plant populations. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory). Join the Natural Resources Division of California State Parks in Sacramento to join the Coastal Programs team. This position is an exciting opportunity to be a part of coastal management and adaptation planning for almost a quarter of the State's coastline. Working with the Coastal Programs team, the incumbent will provide support to sea level rise adaptation projects as well as implementation of the State Parks Sea Level Rise Adaptation Strategy; the incumbent will provide an equal amount of support for coastal ecosystem protection and restoration. GIS mapping skills are essential for this position, and training is available. Experience in project management, implementation of coastal ecosystem restoration, permitting and regulatory context, and policy analysis are highly desirable. Applicants should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a positive attitude, be solution oriented and flexible, and able to take initiative and work independently. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory). Join the Natural Resources Division of California State Parks in Sacramento to join the Coastal Programs team. This position is an exciting opportunity to be a part of coastal management and adaptation planning for almost a quarter of the State's coastline. Working with the Coastal Programs team, the incumbent will provide support to sea level rise adaptation projects as well as implementation of the State Parks Sea Level Rise Adaptation Strategy; the incumbent will provide an equal amount of support for coastal ecosystem protection and restoration. GIS mapping skills are essential for this position, and training is available. Experience in project management, implementation of coastal ecosystem restoration, permitting and regulatory context, and policy analysis are highly desirable. Applicants should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a positive attitude, be solution oriented and flexible, and able to take initiative and work independently. They should be able to manage several high priority projects simultaneously and able to travel to State Park locations across the state. This position will work under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager I. Join the Technical Team within the Natural Resources Division of California State Parks in Sacramento to provide technical expertise on wildlife management issues to preserve and protect the states extraordinary biological diversity and protect most valued natural resources in support of the entire State Park system, including State Vehicular Recreation Areas (SVRA’s).
