Job Location: This position will be located at 101 N Chestnut St., Jefferson City, MO 65101. Do you have a passion for laboratory science and want to be part of a cutting edge state-of-the-art laboratory that performs critical clinical and environmental public health testing? Then this might be the position for you. You will apply your diverse understanding of science, laboratory operations/testing, management, regulatory compliance and fiscal knowledge to support programs within the Missouri State Public Health Laboratory (MSPHL) where over seven million analyses are conducted each year. You will act as a representative of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) on the state and national level and work with key local, state, and federal agencies on diverse and cutting edge testing and information technology all while supporting a new multi-agency One Health Laboratory Campus to be fully constructed by 2026. Oversee 120 scientist and laboratory support staff in support of the MSPHL's mission Direct the strategic priorities of the MSPHL. Oversee the MSPHL's approximate $18 million budget. Be a subject matter expert on clinical and environmental testing to local, state, and national partners. Responsible for the regulatory compliance of numerous federal agencies to ensure ongoing quality testing. Manage, evaluate, and implement creative approaches to the quality improvement and organizational health of MSPHL Be a driver of collaboration with multiple state agencies for the new One Health Laboratory Campus due to be constructed by 2026. Be part of the DHSS's senior management team and be a driver of strategic priorities. Travel will be required with possible overnight stays Other duties as assigned. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a science related field; Four or more years of professional experience as a Chemist, Microbiologist, Medical Technologist, Forensic Scientist, or a closely related area and; 5 years of laboratory management and experience in a high complexity C.L.I.A. laboratory is preferred but not required. Current knowledge of modern clinical and environmental laboratory processes. A thorough understanding of laboratory quality assurance and control and laboratory informatics. Extensive knowledge of public health principles and practices.
