Duties include, but are not limited to: • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the grounds and cleaning department and ride staff. • Respond to patron issues or complaints in a courteous and professional manner. • Prioritize and assign work to meet deadlines for job assignments that are under time restrictions. • Provide general oversight regarding park upkeep and upcoming events. • Draft schedules and approve timecards using the Leave and Attendance Tracking System for permanent and seasonal employees as needed. • Provide training with respect to agency and departmental policies and procedures, park rules and regulations, and assigned equipment operation. • Provide ongoing communication with staff on pressing issues and current events. • Track inventory, identify needs, and process requests for departmental supplies and materials. • Obtain approval, procure materials and supplies, and reconcile purchases using the Budget Expenditure Tracking System and Statewide Financial System in a timely fashion following state purchasing guidelines. • Attend and conduct meetings as needed to plan work projects and work cooperatively with all departments to complete projects in a timely and safe manner. • Supervise and perform administrative duties in support of the park including preparation of various reports which include, but are not limited to seasonal progress evaluations, automated external defibrillator inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, playground inspections, and utility usage reports. • May assist in the execution of departmental responsibilities in the absence of subordinate staff. • Monitor all pesticide and herbicide applications within the park, and assure proper handling, storage, use, and disposal. • Assist grounds supervisor with hazardous tree assessment. Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS: • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. • Must possess Hazardous Tree assessment certification or be able to obtain certification within the probationary period. • Must possess Game of Logging 1 and 2 or be able to obtain them within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment. • Must be able to follow written direction as well as accurately record and document required information. • Must be able to communicate effectively with park and administrative staff and park patrons. • Must have good organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to multi-task. • Must have basic computer skills including use of the internet and a working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Office programs including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams. • Must be able to answer general questions about the park from patrons and employees. • Must be able to give presentations about the park. • Experience in accounting and revenue tracking is preferred but not required. • Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor. • Must be able to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. • Must possess pesticide applicator’s license or to be able to obtain one during probationary period. Position Summary: Working within the Facilities Management Department, the Facilities Supervisor III supervises all maintenance staff and related work in one or more court facilities, as well as coordinates with systems personnel on any installations or repairs that are completed in an assigned facility. The Facilities Supervisor III serves as the lead supervisor for a court complex that includes multiple court departments and may also include one or more nearby court facilities. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives supervision and direction from the designated Manager of Facilities who has oversight for the particular region in which the court facility is located. The Facilities Supervisor III exercises discretion in the handling of personnel related files. Duties: • Supervises all aspects of building operations including maintenance, repairs, and renovations by the Facilities Management Department employees and contractors; • Supervises response to emergencies such as fires, bomb threats, disturbances or building evacuations; • Investigates the condition of buildings, equipment and grounds, and recommends improvements in the facilities to ensure that needs are met; • Working with the Manager of Facilities for the region, develops and implements building improvement projects as needed; • Participates in the screening and hiring of staff, trains, supervises and evaluates performance, and recommends promotion to higher level positions; • Working with the Manager of Facilities for the region, carries out the implementation of the Facilities Management Department Standards for Building Cleaning and Maintenance; • Responsible for the implementation of building Green Cleaning Practices; • Responsible for the supervision/escorting of contractors performing work within assigned buildings and ensures contractors sign in and out, as work is completed; • Reviews work contractor’s work to ensure work is performed per Facilities Management Standards; • Develops and tracks an inventory of signage within all buildings assigned and initiates changes as needed; • Develops and maintains an inventory of building equipment assigned to each facility and reports to management equipment to be taken out of service/replaced; • Maintains an appropriate inventory of building cleaning supplies and tracks usage to ensure replenishment within a timely manner. Generates replenishment orders; • Provides direct supervision and guidance to Facilities Management staff assigned to custodial and grounds maintenance duties; • Responsible for snow removal activities at assigned building(s) including but not limited to directing in-house as well as outside contractors; • Prepares monthly work order status report; • Responsible for the timely completion of on-line job requests and updates status on Maintenance Manager System; • Responsible for the upkeep of the Maintenance Manager System to ensure in-house and/or vendor job requests are closed out when completed; • Responsible for the upkeep of the CAMIS work order system to ensure work order are closed when work is completed; • Acts as liaison between Facilities Management and all Trial Court Departments; • Responsible for the delivery of outstanding customer service to all court users; • Acts as the liaison between the Facilities Management Department and DCAMM in coordinating and executing Deferred Maintenance, Energy Efficiency and other Building Projects; • Reviews daily cleaning checklists and ensure work was completed as indicated; • Addresses any discrepancies with staff arising from work order review and actual condition of the facility; and • Performs related duties as required. Description THE CURRENT VACANCY WILL BE ASSIGNED TO THE COUNTY SERVICE AREAS (CSA) BUT MAY BE USED FOR OTHER OPENINGS. DEFINITION Under general direction, to provide day-to-day supervision for inmates assigned from the County Jail to perform basic and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, and clean-up of County roadways, structures, landscaped areas, and parks; to perform a variety of general maintenance; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a specialized job classification for employees who supervise inmates in performing maintenance and clean-up activities for roads, buildings, landscaped areas, and parks. Assignments involve basic painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs, as well as grounds/parks/road maintenance work REPORTS TO Road Maintenance Superintendent or Facilities and Grounds Manager CLASSIFICATIONS SUPERVISED Inmate workers or other temporary help personnel as assigned. TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Frequently stand and walk; ability to sit for up to three hours; walk for long distances and on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift material weighing over 100 lbs. with assistance; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; ability to wear safety and protective clothing such as hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs, respirators, gloves, boots and chemical resistant clothing; use of heavy power-driven maintenance equipment as well as hand tools, chain saws, grinders, drill presses, and jackhammers. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; work is performed in an environment with constant noise; exposure to gasses, solvents, oil, fumes, dust, grease and oils; exposure to moving equipment, electrical current and explosives; constant contact with staff and the public. Assists in planning inmate work crew activities Works with Sheriff Department staff in assignment of inmates Picks up and drives inmates to designated work sites Assigns individuals or groups to activities such as cutting/clearing brush, clearing roadside debris, cleaning, removing, and replacing culverts Performing basic painting and carpentry Digging ditches, burning grasses and clearing/maintaining roadways, parks, landscaped areas, and other County facilities Provides training to crews Enforces County Jail policies for inmate crews Estimates and schedules work to be done and the quantities of material needed Inspects work projects in progress and upon completion Ensures that work crews employ proper work safety methods and standards Maintains records of work performed and supplies used Coordinates maintenance activities with other Public Works and County Activities, as well as outside agencies Performs semi-skilled maintenance activities and other public works and parks facility maintenance and construction work, as necessary Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Graduation from high school or equivalent; and, Three years of experience in public works construction and maintenance work comparable to a Road Maintenance Worker II in San Benito County, preferably including some supervisory experience. Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid California Drivers License. Clean driving record. Knowledge Of/Ability To Knowledge of: Methods, tools, equipment, materials, and work practices involved in the maintenance, construction, and repair of roads and public works facilities. SAN BENITO COUNTY BENEFITS Employees in regular, full-time positions will be eligible to participate in the following employee benefits: Pay Day: Employees are paid bi-weekly. Insurance Deductions: The insurance and benefits deductions will take place bi-monthly, normally the first two pay periods of the month. Bank/Credit union and 457 Retirement Deferrals deductions will take place bi-weekly. Vacation: Based on continued years of service. Maximum accruals may apply depending on the bargaining unit. 5 to 9 years of service = 15 days per year 10 to 14 years of service = 18 days per year 15 + years of service = 20 days per year Holidays: 13.5 holidays (including 3 floating) for most employees.
