Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
This position will be filled at one of the following based on qualifications:
Professional Instructor I: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour, depending on experience.
- Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation with an associate degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation or a related field, plus one (1) year of experience related to the development and implementation of the assigned programs.
- Experience may substitute for the education up to a maximum of two (2) years.
- Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Appropriate certifications as specified for the assignment.
- May require certification in CPR , First Aid, Water Safety Instruction, or other areas as specified for the assigned class.
- Texas Class “C” Driver or Commercial Driver license if required for the assignment.
Professional Instructor II: $23.00 - $36.00 per hour, depending on experience.
- Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Recreation or a related field, plus one (1) year of experience related to the development and implementation of the assigned programs.
- Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
- Licenses and Certifications Required:
- May require certification in CPR , First Aid, Water Safety Instruction, or other areas as specified for the assigned class.
- Appropriate certifications as specified for the assignment.
- Texas Class “C” Driver or Commercial Driver license if required for the assignment.

The purpose of this
Temporary Professional Instructor I or II position is to plan course content, and present lessons, demonstrations, and examples on specialized arts and culture topics for all ages.
Additional Details: - Instructors must be able to adapt workshops and classes to student age, physical ability, and interests.
- Additionally, Instructors provide classroom management and monitor indoor and outdoor breaks, assist with checking students in and out of the program, provide feedback and encouragement, and ensure safe and proper use of equipment, materials, and facility.
- Instructors should enjoy working with youth and sharing their knowledge and love for the arts in a creative and fun environment, and working with diverse populations.
- Education and Classroom topics include, but are not limited to: Dance, Music, Visual Arts, Digital Media, Culture, Performance or Theater.

- Driving Requirement: This position requires a Texas Class C or Commercial Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Work Location/Schedule: - Variable schedule, 20 to 40 hours per week.
- May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.
- Work schedule and location is subject to change based on department needs and programs.

Preferred Experience: - Experience working with youth and special needs adults in recreational programming; and in implementing/teaching recreational classes and activities.
- Experience designing, implementing and evaluating outdoor interpretive and/or recreational programming.
Preferred Skills:- Ability to fluently communicate (reading, writing, speaking) in English and Spanish, or English and another language.
Preferred Classroom Skills: - Experience with facilitating learning in the classroom (e.g., maintain discipline; encourage participation; consult with parents and guardians, and other care providers to identify and address social emotional developmental needs).
- Possess an understanding of child and adolescent development and have the skills to manage student behavior.
- Experience with judgment, tact, patience, sensitivity, and flexibility interacting with students from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and learning styles.
- Experience with creativity and adaptive thinking to match teaching objectives, learning strategies, and instructional plans with students’ abilities.
- Experience working with students/children in an educational setting (after school program, student teaching, etc.).

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
