The City of Newport Beach is seeking a full-time Paralegal to join the City Attorney's Office . The selected individual will assist attorneys in transactional matters including drafting and reviewing contracts, ordinances, resolutions, deeds, permits, licenses, and other legal documents.

Selection Components:
  • Application Evaluation: This recruitment will remain open on a continuous basis until filled with the first review of applications on February 8, 2024 or at 150 applications- whichever occurs first. Applicants who apply after the first review are not guaranteed to be considered for the recruitment.
  • Virtual Interview: Those candidates deemed most qualified as reflected in their online application will be in vited to a virtual interview t entatively scheduled for February 29, 2024. Passing candidates will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Schedule:

A variety of work schedules may be available (e.g., 5/40, 9/80, 4/10).

Retirement:
The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay toward the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Two years of responsible journey-level paralegal experience.

Education: Equivalent to satisfactory completion of a program in paralegal or legal assistant studies from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited institution. Successful completion of at least two years of education at an ABA accredited law school may be substituted for the completion of a paralegal or legal assistant program.

License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
