Salary Scale: Expected hiring range is $82,500 to $95,000 (Dependent upon qualifications)

Position:

The department of Cinema and Television Arts at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Screenwriting at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will teach screenwriting at the undergraduate and graduate levels and continue to pursue their own scholarly and creative research.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.

Required Qualifications:
  • College or University-level in-person experience teaching screenwriting
  • Demonstrated professional experience in writing for television and/or film
  • MFA in Screenwriting or related field from an accredited institution; or a Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent professional experience, training and expertise (i.e., a minimum of employment as a writer on one season of no fewer than 6 episodes, and/or 2 or more writing credits on a produced episodic series, motion picture or combination of the two).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of or clear potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate screenwriting courses using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
  • Creative professional activity that includes working with students, individuals, groups and/or communities from diverse backgrounds
  • Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body, create a student-centered learning environment, and adopt inclusive approaches to mentoring
  • Evidence of successful creative achievement in writing scripted comedy
