Temporary Faculty Position (Lecturer)

The Department

Located in the Jean & Charles Schulz Information Center, the University Library provides materials, spaces, services, and technology to help the Sonoma State community learn, teach, reflect, read, collaborate, innovate, and celebrate arts & culture. Duties of the Position

The position will engage in a full range of on-site reference, library instruction, and outreach activities. Duties and responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:

• Contributing to library programs and services for campus and surrounding communities;

• Providing reference and instruction on the use of print and electronic information sources to students, faculty, staff, and the community;

• Providing course-related library instruction;

• Collaborating with faculty on assignments, collection needs, and the integration of information literacy into the college curriculum;

• Contributing to the development and maintenance of the library's web presence, including social media and library guides;

• Participating in department meetings and professional development activities as needed;

• Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.

Professional Qualifications

To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent at start date

• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff

• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in an academic library setting

• Experience providing reference and instruction in a library setting

Rank and Salary

Full-time is 40 hours per week. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of hours assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.

• Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.

• Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,168 - $6,946 per full-time month.

• The full-time monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of hours worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.

• Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon department needs and funding.

• Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.

• Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.

• Expenses incurred to attend an interview for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.

Application procedures for temporary faculty already teaching in the department:

- Temporary Faculty with three-year contracts do not need to reapply.

- Temporary Faculty who have taught for the department within the past two years only need to submit an updated CV to remain in the pool. The hiring committee will review the Personnel Action File and then determine whether an additional interview would be beneficial.
