Student Services Professional II

Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556/Monthly

Work Schedule : Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; temporary one-year appointment from date of hire. May be extended, may become permanent; exempt classification.

Essential Functions : Under the general direction of the Director, International Office, the incumbent serves as the primary staff person to advise and recruit prospective international undergraduate and graduate students to Cal State LA. The incumbent will work closely with the Director to create and implement international student recruitment and outreach plans that lead to increased applications and enrollments to the University. The incumbent will communicate regularly with prospective students and student leads and provide them with knowledge about Cal State LA, admission requirements, application process, academic majors and programs, student life, and other pertinent information. The incumbent will represent the university at higher education recruitment events and meetings hosted domestically and internationally, whether in-person or virtually. Therefore, international travel will be required at least two to four times per year. The incumbent will also work closely with key University offices (e.g., Recruitment and Outreach Office, Admission Office) regarding the status of international applications and the tracking of application and admissions data, as well as the Marketing and Communications (MarComm) Department in the College of Professional and Global Education regarding marketing materials, website updates, social media campaigns, and other forms of recruitment support. The incumbent will also serve as the primary liaison and advisor for international student recruiting agencies and independent agents. The incumbent will train, advise, and support agents so that they properly promote Cal State LA’s brand and reputation in designated overseas markets and raise the university’s international profile to achieve recruitment targets in those markets. Agent support includes training and application management, performance monitoring, and relationship development. The incumbent will work with the Director to ensure all agent agreements and MOUs are up to date and commission invoices and payments are made in a timely and proper manner. The incumbent will collaborate with the International Student Advisor responsible for supporting newly admitted students and assist, as needed, with new student pre-arrival information, including housing, registration, student insurance, and issuance of initial I-20s. The incumbent may also be asked to assist with Cal State LA International student events and activities (e.g., new student orientations, International Education Week, on-campus cultural and celebration events).

Required Qualifications & Experience : Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has
acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth; and experience tracking student outreach efforts and linking ROI to outreach plans. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. The incumbent must have knowledge of and experience with university admissions as well as experience as a DSO and knowledge of SEVIS and visa policies and procedures. The incumbent must have effective communication, both written and oral. The incumbent must have demonstrated outstanding customer/student service. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current California State University employees who may apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications : A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in International Relations, Business Administration, Political Science, Marketing, or a closely related field. Experience with international student recruitment; and with CRM systems such as Terra Dotta or other related software. Knowledge of best practices related to international student recruitment and outreach. Knowledge of and experience with Cal State LA and CSU university admissions policies and procedures; and Oracle/PeopleSoft.
