FULL-TIME LECTURER - STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING - The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo invites applications for a full-time adjunct faculty position in the area of Structural Engineering. The position starts in Fall 2022 and is renewable for academic year 2023/24 based on department needs and the candidate’s performance. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching (and/or coordinating) courses in the areas of general structural design (steel, concrete, and timber), civil engineering materials, and/or structural mechanics depending on department needs and the candidate’s skills.

Range and salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - AY Classification is available based on the following ranges: Range 2 Range 3 Range 4 Range 5

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - A minimum of a BS in civil, structural, architectural engineering or a closely related field is required. Candidates with related industry or consulting experience will be given preference to reinforce Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing core philosophy. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Supportive teaching workshops offered by the Cal Poly Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology are encouraged. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - A P.E. licensure is preferred. PhD in civil, structural, architectural engineering or a closely related field is preferred. Previous teaching experience is desirable (but not required). Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT - The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department was officially formed in 1981, though transportation and environmental engineering degree programs had been in place at Cal Poly for some time. Since its inception, the department has continued to grow. Currently, there are approximately 650 undergraduate students enrolled in the Civil Engineering Program. Approximately 200 undergraduates are currently enrolled in the Environmental Engineering Program. In addition, the department supports about 50 graduate students who are working toward the Master of Science degree. Both the Civil and Environmental Engineering Programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The programs stress teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and state-of-the-practice analysis and design techniques. Each program is laboratory intensive, with hands-on student learning stressed in support of the University's "learn by doing" motto.

Our faculty is comprised of more than 22 tenured and tenure-track faculty with extensive academic and professional qualifications. These full-time faculty are supported by over 20 full- and part-time lecturers, many of whom practice engineering in the local community.
