ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Building Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Senior Engineer/Architect position. This position provides professional leadership and expert assistance to professional and technical support staff in the area of Geotechnical Plan Review, Structural Plan Review, and/or Quality Assurance. The selected candidate will perform professional level engineering review of geotechnical reports, structural calculations, plans, inspection reports, and other related documents for a variety of projects including those of a difficult, complex, and/or time sensitive nature.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Clark County Building Department is dedicated to providing construction and development customers with state-of-the-art permit management, plan review, and inspections services for residential and commercial construction. The Building Department is responsible for ensuring public safety through the effective enforcement of development and construction standards which include issuance of permits, plan reviews, and inspection services. A part of Clark County, the Building Department is a dynamic and innovative organization dedicated to providing top-quality service with integrity, respect, and accountability. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture AND four (4) years of full-time professional level plan checking, design and/or field project management experience. Equivalency may be considered for registered architects.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

Licensing and Certification: Possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess registration as a professional engineer or architect in the State of Nevada at time of application. If registered in another state, must obtain Nevada registration within one (1) year of date of hire.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Provides professional, consultive assistance and advice to engineering, plan check, building inspection and related staff in areas of expertise.
  • May provide training and work review to staff or a project basis.
  • Reviews and examines plans, computer-generated and manual calculations and related documents for residential, commercial, industrial and amusement rides and related resort projects for compliance with codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Confers with developers, engineers, architects, contractors, property owners and others to explain codes, regulations and procedures.
  • Provides program management from conception to completion on specified construction or renovation projects.
  • Monitors developments in the construction field; identifies needed changes to codes and regulations; evaluates alternatives, drafts recommended changes and/or recommends methods to meet codes using new technology.
  • Maintains liaison with other County departments, various utility, governmental agency and County departmental staff; ensures that building codes are met in assigned projects.
  • Directs the maintenance of and maintains accurate records and files and prepares a variety of periodic and special reports and correspondence.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Assists in preparing litigation documentation and may testify in court as an expert witness.
  • Works with property owners to obtain easements and other cooperative agreements.
  • Develops, implements and interprets policies and procedures related to area of assignment.
  • Drives a personal or County motor vehicle to attend meetings and visit various County work sites.
  • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
