The County is recruiting for Licensed Vocational Nurses I - Corrections who assist physicians, registered nurses and other health specialists in the treatment and care of patients in an adult or juvenile locked correctional facility. Duties include providing basic nursing care; collecting vital signs, blood, and specimens; and administering medications as directed. Incumbents in this class are expected to perform the full range of duties under close supervision while acquiring the experience and skill of a journey-level Licensed Vocational Nurse.

The list established by this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies in the Sheriff's (Adult population) and Probation (Youth population). The Sheriff's Department positions are for day, evening and night shifts (with an immediate need for the High Desert).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Certification: Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support certification.

Shift: Must be available for rotating shift work, including weekends and holidays, and may be required to assist after normal duty hours in emergency situations and may involve hostile or volatile wards and inmates. Night shift differential and overtime compensation are available.

Background: Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony and, upon appointment, must successfully pass a thorough background investigation, including a fingerprint check and polygraph.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform for extended periods of time: balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, standing, stooping, turning, twisting; and walking long distances both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; hand and finger dexterity in both hands; ability to manipulate heavy duty security locks and doors; reaching or working above and below shoulder level; normal vision, including color discrimination; normal hearing; and carrying up to 10 pounds. NOTE: Incumbents will be required to respond immediately to emergencies while on duty which may involve hostile and volatile wards and inmates .

Working Conditions: Working conditions involve exposure to hazardous and infectious materials and communicable diseases.

Travel: Travel throughout the County will be required. Incumbents are required to make provision for transportation. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Promotion: Incumbents in the class of Licensed Vocational Nurse I - Corrections are eligible for promotion upon meeting minimum qualifications and upon receipt of a satisfactory work progress report. Employees must qualify for promotion to Licensed Vocational Nurse II - Corrections within 12 months or be terminated.

Minimum Requirements

License: Must possess and maintain a current Licensed Vocational Nurse license with the State of California.

AND

Certification: Must possess Basic Life Support certification.
