The Job

San Bernardino County Museum offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Museum Associate Curator of Anthropology* who, under the Supervision of the Museum Chief Deputy, will coordinate collections management activities of the Anthropology Department of San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands, CA. The Associate Curator will assist in the development and implementation of programming; act as a liaison between the Chief Deputy and volunteers, handle research requests; lead public and school outreach efforts, and conduct research on various artifacts; and related duties as required.

The San Bernardino County Museum is located in Redlands and contains exhibits and collections in cultural history and natural history. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Incumbent must successfully complete a background check prior to appointment.

Travel: Travel throughout the County is required, as incumbents work at the various Museum sites throughout the County. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements of the position include the following: frequent sitting, walking, and standing; frequent lifting and carrying of materials up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting and carrying of materials up to 100 pounds.

Availability: Incumbents will be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: A completed Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Anthropology, Applied Archaeology, Museum Studies, History or closely related field. -- AND -- EXPERIENCE: One (1) year full-time equivalent professional experience in a cultural resource management firm, tribal government, or museum.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: A completed Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Anthropology, Applied Archaeology, Museum Studies, History or closely related field may substitute for the required experience.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience in the development of exhibits and developing and presenting school and educational public programs.
