Full Time Building Maintenance Planning and Development

Job Description

Basic Function
Plans work and order materials for the maintenance of vehicles for bus operations and component rebuild shops.

Example Of Duties
  • Plans and schedules the work for a subset Central Maintenance Shops (CMS)
  • Coordinates bus flow between different repair and refurbishment shops, as well as with Metro′s Bus Operating Divisions
  • Identifies delays or deficiencies and works with management or Bus Operating Division to alleviate/ resolve issues/problems
  • Serves as liaison on behalf of the Equipment Maintenance Department production shops with the Material Department to determine material requirements
  • Coordinates material delivery with labor availability
  • Identifies delays or deficiencies and works with management to resolve issues
  • Reviews workload assignments of the Central Maintenance shops to assess material needs and forecast future material requirements using computerized models and Metro′s Maintenance and Material Management (M3) System
  • Forecasts inventory requirements and delivery schedules
  • Analyzes ordering and delivery problems and initiates emergency methods to ensure materials are delivered when required
  • Identifies material requirements for production and maintains an on-going mid-range (16 week) computerized production plan for supplies and materials
  • Develops strategies to resolve production schedule conflicts
  • Prepares reports of production goals and objectives
  • Creates, releases, and closes all work orders; updates status of work orders in the computerized Metro′s Maintenance and Material Management (M3) System
  • Ensures department labor and material is expended to the correct funding source
  • Provides accurate daily, weekly, and monthly feedback on production status (against work orders, schedules, and project status) to management
  • Prepares reports for production goals and objectives
  • Provides guidance to others within the department and must provide excellent customer service, internally and externally, to the organization
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Requirements For Employment
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field

Experience
  • Three years of relevant experience performing production planning duties, or similar professional-level duties, in a manufacturing and/or repair environment; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment

Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

Knowledge:
  • Theories, principles, and practices of public procurement, materiel management, and large-scale materiel production interfacing within a computerized environment
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing public procurement, materiel management inventory control, and capital assets inventory
  • Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and other production control systems
  • Planning production shops and scheduling material and labor
  • Business mathematics, algorithms, and equations
  • Modern management theory
  • Personal computer operations and basic software applications
  • Applicable business software applications

  • Planning material requirements to meet production needs
  • Maintaining schedules
  • Analyzing situations, identifying problems, recommending solutions, and evaluating outcomes
