NATURE OF WORK:

Monitor activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents, and provide assistance to swimmers, perform emergency procedures, and administer first aid when needed. An employee is responsible for performing activities of average difficulty at an unassigned aquatic area. Under general supervision, tasks performed include, but are not limited to inspecting and maintaining pool facilities for cleanliness, determining chlorine and pH readings of water using the correct test kit, and giving swim lessons. Position works on average up to 40 hours per week.

Examples of Duties

Teaches and prepares swim lessons, maintain swimming equipment, administer first aid, prepare supplies for daily activities, act in emergency situations and provide rescue assistance, inspect facilities for unsafe conditions and cleanliness to prevent accidents, enforce rules consistently and fairly, promotes safe play in the aquatic environment, promotes good public relations with the community and performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Currently attending high school, high school diploma or possession of a general equivalency diploma (GED). All candidates will be water tested. Selected candidates will be trained in Lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and emergency oxygen administration certificates. Certifications are required to be considered for employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be punctual and always organized.
  • Ability to communicate, effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
