The purpose of this position is to provide timely and pertinent information relative to crime patterns and trends; to assist operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities; aiding the investigative process by providing information which helps increase the timely apprehension of offenders and the clearance of cases.

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Tactical analysis: develops and maintains methods to identify emergent crime patterns and series; analyzes these activities and contributes to intervention efforts; supports the investigative functions of the police department; uses unrestricted access to information concerning police calls for service, crime reports, cases, arrest records, field interviews, citations, known offender files and other internal police data and resources to identify, analyze and assist in resolving criminal activity.
  • Strategic analysis: develops, maintains, and analyzes internal measurements and forecasting of long-term public safety related activity for use in problem solving, intervention and reduction efforts of the police department.
  • Operational analysis: by provides information and analysis to officers, supervisors and commanders including decision-supporting intelligence and information which improves police awareness and judgment in a timely and reliable manner.
  • Administrative analysis: provides information and analysis regarding police resources including manpower and resource allocation and redistricting; provides forecasts and interpretations of future crime statistics; identifies and recommends methods to develop agency tactics, strategies, and long range plans for crime control and prevention.
  • Researches, complies, analyzes and interprets statistical data from a variety of sources including offense and arrest reports, census, economic and demographic reports and related data; researches and tracks modus operandi factors and discerns crime series or patterns by studying and linking common spatial and temporal factors and follows up by reporting information at patrol briefings and to departments, command staff, city council and in public forums;
  • Regular and dependable attendance is required.
  • All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Professional experience performing research by way of analyzing data, producing statistics, and creating products of findings and/or recommendations; Crime Analysis experience is preferred.
  • Ability to use SQL Server Management Studio to design and build relational database queries.
  • Ability to design, develop, and distribute interactive reports using business intelligence applications (such as Crystal Reports and/or Power BI), connect to databases, and create formulas and functions.
  • Familiarity in creating crime data maps and graphical analysis using Geographic Information Systems.
  • Familiarity with commonly used law enforcement or public safety software, CAD/RMS applications, and databases.
  • Scripting language knowledge is a plus (Python, JavaScript, Crystal Syntax).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or other closely related field OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
  • Experience: At least six months of experience in performing administrative duties; experience in Crime Analysis is preferred.
  • Licenses: Valid Driver's License required
