The Position

Auditors conduct audits on accounts, records, activities, operations and/or internal controls of individuals, business organizations, State agencies or other government jurisdictions subject to State taxation or regulation to ensure compliance with State and federal rules and regulations and legal requirements and/or proper safeguarding of agency funds.

The Department of Taxation is filling multiple Auditor 2 positions. These positions will involve performing independent financial audits of taxpayer records. Complexity of Net Proceeds of Minerals Tax and the financial records are involved. These positions require 6 credit hours of accounting or auditing coursework but an accounting degree is preferred. The candidates must be able to type the audit information into software on a laptop computer and must have a basic knowledge of common software, such as Excel, Word, etc. The candidates must communicate with and assist taxpayers as well as prepare a complete audit report of the findings in an audit and independently work in the field at the audit site. Overnight travel is required a few times a year. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which included 6 college credits in beginning accounting and/or auditing, and one year of professional level auditing or accounting experience involving analyzing financial information and making recommendations based upon that analysis; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education, supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and/or auditing and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Auditor I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above, which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting and/or auditing. Special Notes Applicants must attach a copy of their college or university transcripts indicating successful completion of required credits in accounting and/or auditing. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. This position requires a State of Nevada/FBI background check, at the cost of the applicant. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
