The Position

Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

The incumbent will implement components of the Stormwater program including the monitoring program, assessing impacts of stormwater runoff on impaired waters, prioritizing watersheds and projects based on potential impact of the roadway on water quality, identifying if runoff contains pollutants that contribute to the pollution of impaired waters, the Low Impact Development program, and the Research program; preparing program documents and technical reports; performing hydrologic and water quality computer modeling; assessing the condition and effectiveness of temporary and permanent Best Management Practices (BMP's) and water quality treatment devices; analyzing data and trends; coordinating Stormwater projects and programs with other divisions, staff, local, State, and federal agencies, and consultants to ensure requirements, project goals, and schedules are met; reviewing reports, plans, and specifications; provide technical assistance on Stormwater issues during the construction and maintenance phases of projects; performing field reviews, inspections, and data collection; and assisting with preparation of NDOT's annual reports. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions may require specialized education and/or experience which will be identified at the time of recruitment. Some positions may require a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria This position has a 25% travel requirement.
