    What You Will be Doing as a Board of Elections Department Systems Manager:
    • S upervise and manage two Department Systems Supervisors responsible for voting equipment operations and IT support services
    • Oversee the IT Team’s work objectives, timelines, tasks, and projects and ensure all are successfully completed while maintaining statutory compliance
    • Collaborate with supervisors and team members throughout the department to identify process improvements and efficiencies
    • Build effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to coordinate election event management, procedures, and best practices
    • Oversee the planning and coordination of IT staffing for all critical election functions, ensuring sufficient coverage and technical support across overlapping election events including Precinct Official training, voting equipment testing and deployment, Early Voting site setup, and support for Election Day and Early Voting help lines
    • Provide strategic oversight to staff managing ballot reconciliation and post-election reporting, ensuring the accurate preparation of canvass reports presented to the five-member bipartisan Board of Elections for election certification
    • Ensure team processes align with statutory requirements, maintain data integrity and support transparency and public confidence in election outcomes
    • Assist the Board of Elections Administration Team with developing the IT Team’s future budgetary needs and identify potential budget expansion and Capital Improvement Plan requests
    • Develop processes to facilitate and oversee the programming of election contests and ballots to be used in elections
    • Develop processes to facilitate and oversee the maintenance, programming and deployment of voting machines prior to each election
    • Develop processes to facilitate and oversee the tabulating, reporting and auditing of election results using certified election software and systems
    • Ensure that Wake County’s 216 Election Day voting locations and up to 30 Early Voting locations have the devices and technological infrastructure needed to efficiently conduct election operations
    • Lead and coach the daily activities of team members including identifying training opportunities and encouraging the exploration of emerging technologies
    • Develop and implement processes across IT office support, voting equipment operations and election technologies to ensure security and integrity, while providing oversight that promotes transparency and public trust
    • Communicate key updates to the IT team and collaborate across divisions to drive innovation, strategic planning and continuous improvement in election operations


    About Our Team

    The Wake County Board of Elections is responsible for conducting all elections held in Wake County. The Board locally administers state and federal election laws. Principal functions include establishing election precincts and voting sites; appointing and training Precinct Officials; preparing and distributing ballots and voting equipment; canvassing and certifying the ballots cast in elections and investigating any voting irregularities. It maintains voter registration and participation records and provides public information on voters and elections. This position is in-person and will work at the Board of Elections Operations Center.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related field
    • Three years of experience in information systems support
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Hiring Range: 100,000 - 120,000

    Market Range: 87,408.00 - 157,332.00
