The PositionThis recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) full-time vacancy for the position of Animal Shelter Manager for the Napa County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center, which is a part of the Public Works Department at Napa County. The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill futu re full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year. About the Position & Department: - Annual Salary: $103,937.60 (Step 1) - $126,006.40 (Step 5)

We offer many programs and services, such as pet adoptions, lost and found pets, pet surrenders, microchipping and licensing.
The Animal Shelter Manager is an at-will management position responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the operations and activities of the Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. This position provides leadership in all areas of shelter management, including humane animal care, shelter admissions, adoptions, and euthanasia procedures. Additionally, the Animal Shelter Manager supervises and develops shelter staff, ensures the safety, sanitation, and maintenance of the facility, prepares operational reports, and serves as the on-site spokesperson for the shelter. The position also represents Napa County in community outreach by educating the public on responsible pet ownership, and promoting compliance with County animal regulations and laws.

Position Requirements: To qualify for the Animal Shelter Manager, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:
- Experience:Three years related animal shelter supervisory or management experience preferably in a facility of similar complexity and size as the Napa County Animal Shelter.
- Education: Completion of an Associate's Degree in Animal Management, animal shelter management, pet sciences and/or humane leadership or another degree where the candidate has also successfully completed college level course work in animal disease prevention and shelter sanitation, canine and feline management, animal handling, animal cruelty, nutrition, animal behavior and/or animal protection. A bachelor's degree in any of the listed disciplines is highly desired.
- License or Certificate*: Possession of a valid driver's license. Euthanasia Certification. Applicants who do not possess the Euthanasia Certification may be appointed to the position, but the required coursework must be taken and the certificate obtained within the first six months of employment.
- Special Requirements: Persons employed in this class must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
