    The Position

    Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR), protects, manages, and enhances the State's resources to provide the highest quality of life for Nevada's citizens and visitors. The NDCNR with over 900 employees consists of the Director's Office and the following divisions and programs: Environmental Protection, Forestry, State Lands, State Parks, Water Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Heritage, State Historic Preservation Office, Off-Highway Vehicles, Sagebrush Ecosystem, and the Conservation Districts Program. The Department also provides support staff to the Nevada Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and has responsibility for numerous Boards, Commissions, and Councils. The Department has locations and/or provides program services in every community of the State. The Director's Office of the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking a creative, proactive, and strategic communications professional to assist with relations efforts and execute comprehensive communication strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong reputation for delivering timely, accurate information with high-quality presentations. Exceptional written, verbal, and graphic design communication skills are essential, along with the ability to confidently present to diverse audiences and stakeholder groups. Job specifications are the ability to write/edit press releases, media advisories, statements, blogs, fact sheets, talking points, constituent letters, website content, social media posts, brochures, flyers, infographics, scripts, speeches, publication copy, and other written communications. Develop quarterly internal and external newsletters. Utilize Adobe Creative Suite applications to produce appealing brochures, flyers, infographics, videos, and other materials. Implement department's social media strategies. Produce appealing written and visual content for department's social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and blog. Monitor department-wide social media channels, as well as key stakeholder accounts and news and online media related to agency activities, maintain archives of media coverage and provide a distribution method for coverage. Candidate needs to be able to work with and respond to inquiries from international, national, regional, and local media, as well as representatives of natural resource publications, trade journals, and non-traditional media outlets. Ability to develop media statements, interview and news conference arrangements/special events. Serve as the department spokesperson when necessary. Conceptualize, design, and develop department, agency, and specialty websites and provide and/or oversee content management and maintenance. Arrange photo shoots/video shoots and take photos/videos/photos as needed for communications and marketing efforts. Exercise sound judgement/discretion, dependability, adaptability, resourcefulness, and compliance with policies and safety requirements in the office and out in the field.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements This position requires travel up to 25% of the time. Additional Position Criteria Valid driver's license. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
