Summary Under general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Leader II is classified within the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The employee may perform additional duties within the scope of this classification standard. Essential Functions / Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities The following functions ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Employee(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. The Recreation Leader II position will serve in a part time capacity working up to 27 hours per week based upon required shifts and assigned Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and/or Sunday, including holidays. Knowledge of: Various sports including basketball, softball, and soccer. Skills to: Ensure patron safety, monitor the safety of facility and program environment; and Enforce City policies and protocols. Abilities to: Understand and follow instructions; Help coordinate and supervise operations of playground, adult sports or aquatic center programs; Assist in planning, directing and leading children and adults in program related activities; Assist with recreation activities, trips and special events at El Monte park sites, schools, facilities; Assist with citywide special events; Secure parks and facilities at the conclusions of all programs; Assist during facility rentals; Assist in the operation and distribution of the summer food program funded by the California Department of Education; Perform clerical duties including: answering phones, photocopying, and filing; Oversee El Monte Wellness Programs; Document reports on accidents, rejections and various issues related to the programs; Monitor related fees and keep accurate records of program paperwork; Deliver excellent customer service; and Be observant and detail oriented. Other Requirements: Employees will be required to wear standard department uniform; and Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Sufficient education, training, and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities which would typically be acquired through: To apply for this classification, one must be at least 18 years of age. Education: Must have a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience in Community Services or Recreation related programming. Certificates & Licenses: Must possess a current American Red Cross First-Aid Certification. ADDITIONAL / DESIRED REQUIREMENT : Bilingual ability is highly desirable.
