ABOUT THE POSITION JOB SUMMARY: The Clark County Water Reclamation District is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the WRD WW Plant Operations Technician I position. This position will be responsible for: Learning and performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, plant sampling and other activities related to continuous operation of a wastewater treatment plant Operating equipment for the treatment of wastewater Learning how plant equipment operates Inspecting plant equipment to ensure correct operation Performing daily plant rounds and completing round sheets accurately Learning and becoming familiar with District policy on Safety and Security Becoming familiar with Plant SCADA and alarm system Understanding NPDES permit and its importance to the environment Performing basic laboratory analysis and understanding the results Driving a variety of District vehicles Click here to view a complete copy of the job classification . MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent AND one (1) year of full-time experience, training, or education in the operation and maintenance of water, wastewater or similar industrial equipment. Equivalent combinations of experience, training, and/or education which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the major functions of the position may be considered. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application. Working Conditions: Work day, evening, night, weekend, holiday shifts and standby. Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and substances found in the wastewater treatment process. Work out of doors in all weather conditions. Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Nevada Water Environment Association (NWEA) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Grade I certificate within one (1) year from date of hire. Some positions may require confined space entry certification. Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted. Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician. Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Learns and performs the operation of pumps, valves, and other equipment by computer, hand or mechanical means to regulate the flow of wastewater through various primary, secondary and tertiary treatment processes; learns and performs the operation of solid processing equipment to separate the liquids from solids; may maintain even flow to ensure maximum efficiency of plant equipment; inspects plant equipment and reports any failures or operating difficulties to lead operator and may initiate work orders and requests repairs in computerized maintenance management system; stops and starts equipment as required for operation and repairs; takes samples of wastewater, scum, grit, sludge and other materials and properly records chain of custody information for samples delivered to the laboratory; assists and may run process lab testing to determine daily efficiency of treatment processes and online instrumentation; operates, adjusts and performs basic maintenance on chemical mixing and feed equipment to ensure compliance with established guidelines; monitors main lab and process data and may recommend and/or implement process changes as necessary; reads meters, gauges, charts and instruments and documents all required information; receives and unloads bulk chemicals, some of which are hazardous; learns to interpret material safety data sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals used on site; learns to operate a front-end loader to mix sludge in drying beds and load on to trucks; drives a heavy truck or tractor-trailer on plant grounds to transport biosolids; may drive heavy equipment on plant grounds such as, but not limited to: forklifts, street sweepers, tractor-trailers, dump-trucks and other vehicles as needed; cleans, lubricates and performs routine preventive maintenance of plant equipment, grounds, and facilities; performs record keeping functions such as logging information regarding plant operation, test results from process lab, maintenance work performed and unusual operating conditions in a logbook; cleans equipment by using high-pressure water sprayers and associated cleaners; cleans weirs on clarifiers when necessary; uses common hand and power tools in the course of the work; performs basic facility and grounds maintenance in the area of the treatment plant; uses standard office equipment, including a computer in the course of the work; may be required to assist in confined space entries, or may be part of a confined space entry team; contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team; drives District vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assists other staff as required; performs additional duties as necessary. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Mobility to work in a typical plant operations setting, including operating hand and power tools; stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working in confined or awkward spaces; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed material, computer screen and determine fine color differences; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, or over a radio or telephone.
