City of Claremont Explorer Post #411 has been in existence since the mid 1970’s. The program is open to young men and women between the ages of 14 ½ and 21 years old. The members of this program enjoy a wide range of activities, which expose them to many aspects within the field of law enforcement and community service. The city and police department staff is committed to assisting our youth to become responsible and contributing members of our community. As Explorers, our members are able to actively participate in creating a safe environment in which to live, work, play, and grow. In addition, this experience brings a feeling of accomplishment and pride to those who participate. A planned program will introduce members to all phases of law enforcement is ongoing. Instruction is provided by police personnel, specifically Explorer Advisors, under the direction of the Chief of Police. A command structure is also in place within the post. This allows for members to learn and develop leadership and problem solving skills. The Volunteer Police Explorer program is intended to provide experience that is a useful addition for future professional employment and there should be no expectations of future paid employment with the City of Claremont. The Position School and employment responsibilities should be considered prior to the application process, though exceptions can be made under certain circumstances. Explorers are required to volunteer in the records bureau of the department, participate in patrol ride alongs, and be prepared for call-outs whenever necessary. A returning Claremont City employee that was enrolled in PERS will receive the PERS benefit formula they received while previously employed with the City, irrespective of the break in service. An employee who is a new enrollment in PERS, is not coming from an agency with PERS reciprocity, or has a break in service greater than 6 months shall be enrolled in the Third Tier PERS benefit formula of 2% @ 62. Employee PERS Contribution Safety employees hired prior to March 19, 2012 and hired into the Two Tier of 3% @ 55 retirement plan shall contribute 9% towards their PERS member contributions. Safety employees hired in the Third Tier of 2.7% @ 57retirement plan shall currently contribute 13% or 50% of the total normal cost rate, whichever is greater, towards their PERS member contributions. Miscellaneous employees hired prior to March 19, 2012, shall contribute 8% towards their PERS member contributions. PERS Highest Pension Calculation Compensation Period -The City shall provide the Single Highest One Year Final Compensation Pension calculation benefit to current miscellaneous employees hired prior to March 19, 2012. LONG-TERM DISABILITY: The City provides a long-term disability plan.This benefit is in case an employee sustains a non-work-related illness or injury which results in their inability to work for a long period of time. In this event, an employee will receive 66.66% of their base pay after 60 days, and continued payment until they are medically able to return to work, or until they reach the age of 65, whichever comes first (maximum of $8,000 per month). What you'll do: Serves as the assistant to the Chief of Custody and/or as a shift supervisor in an adult correctional facility with the Division of Adult Institutions Conducts inspections to ensure that Correctional Officers are on duty and attentive to their duties; maintains records of Correctional Officer's performance/work habits Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to the proper facility staff specialists; and promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender's social attitudes, discouraging undesirable behavior, encouraging worthwhile activities Assumes responsibility for the operation of the facility in the absence of higher-ranking officers; assumes command during emergencies Participates on the facility offender disciplinary committee responsible for determining disciplinary measures to be carried out in cases involving violation of division or facility rules; investigates reported infractions of rules and regulations by offenders or employees Serves as a member of the facility classification committee; interviews new offenders, and assists in their assignment; maintains records; prepares, or supervises the preparation of a variety of reports Directs inspections and searches of offenders, their living quarters, and other areas of the correctional facility Exercises considerable discretion in the performance of daily tasks and in emergency situations; work is reviewed by inspections and reports; receives general administrative direction; conducts training sessions for corrections personnel; and performs other related work as assigned A physical examination by a physician may be required before, or at the time of appointment to determine if the applicant meets the physical standards of employment established by the Missouri Department of Corrections By assignment, a position may require possession of a valid vehicle operator's license All you need for success: Minimum Qualifications: Four or more years of experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility, of which one year must have been as a Correctional Lieutenant with the Missouri Department of Corrections; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.
