SOCIAL MEDIA POSTINGS AND EMPLOYMENT BACKGROUND CHECKS« Back to Questions List

I just graduated from college with good academic marks, however some of my spirited college life has been posted on Facebook and other social media.  Now I am hearing that many employers routinely use FB during background checks. Is this true and if so what damage control measures can I take?

Yes it’s true. Set your privacy settings so that your posts and photos are not visible to anyone but friends. And if it comes up in an interview, be honest and say how you’ve matured since then. Going forward, one way to avoid embarrassing posts is to not do stupid things. Amazing how that works 100% of the time.
