{"id":2775,"date":"2014-05-08T20:44:40","date_gmt":"2014-05-09T03:44:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/careersingovernment.com\/tools\/?p=2775"},"modified":"2014-05-10T15:46:59","modified_gmt":"2014-05-10T22:46:59","slug":"putting-meat-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/gov-talk\/about-gov\/public-sector-trends\/putting-meat-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Putting the Meat in Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/gov-talk\/about-gov\/public-sector-trends\/putting-meat-team\/attachment\/schuber-meet\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2778\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2778\" src=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/schuber.meet_..jpg\" alt=\"schuber.meet.\" width=\"448\" height=\"404\" \/><\/a>There is a growing trend in the private firms of staff development which has shown signs of success.\u00a0 The lunch meeting with a potential new team member to see how the person interacts with potentially new coworkers has been on the rise.\u00a0 The theory behind the concept is simple.\u00a0 Does this person fit?\u00a0 If so, to what extent do they fit?<\/p>\n<p>It can be easy to fain interest in the others in a group while sitting in the hot seat of an interview and even to develop a rapport that gets you in the door.\u00a0 A candidate who is multi-tasking a meal and a conversation can open your eyes to possible personality conflicts and even help identify if the personalities of the group just don\u2019t have cohesiveness enough to work.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t even have to be a large group just a few of the staff who will work directly with the person who can be trusted to carry on a conversation as well as give you the manager some honest feedback about their potential coworker.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a lot to say about the possibility of building up your current staff can have when you are willing to let them into the interactive process of team building.\u00a0 Even just the chance to have a meal with the boss and a possible new recruit can make them feel special.\u00a0 Worst case scenario is the person being hired is a terrible fit, bread is flung, drinks spilled, your candidate doesn\u2019t cut it, and all for the cost of a meal.\u00a0 No need to hire, then remove a problem, because you took the time to seek input from your valued staff.<\/p>\n<p>Even better is later on down the line if the choice turns out to have flaws you get the ability to turn to staff and say \u201cyou helped us pick them.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cMaybe you can help us train\/retrain them so they can meet the standards we are looking for.\u201d\u00a0 I know I hate to be wrong, and if your staff hates to be wrong then a chance to fix a bad call is a win\/win for everyone.\u00a0 However, they own as much of that bad call as you and can help be a resource to fixing it.\u00a0 Time will tell if the <a href=\"http:\/\/businessculture.org\/business-culture\/business-etiquette\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">model keeps trending<\/a>, but I for one say \u201cLet\u2019s Eat, I mean Team!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a growing trend in the private firms of staff development which has shown signs of success.\u00a0 The lunch meeting with a potential new team member to see how the person interacts with potentially new coworkers has been on the rise.\u00a0 The theory behind the concept is simple.\u00a0 Does this person fit?\u00a0 If so, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":31,"featured_media":2778,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","_cbd_carousel_blocks":"[]","_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[41,35],"class_list":["post-2775","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-public-sector-trends","tag-career-advice-2","tag-government-trends"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 - Jerry joined the solid waste family in December 2000 as the safety and training specialist. Within a short period of time he was promoted to supervisor and eventually promoted over to code enforcement as a housing program supervisor. After spending six years at City Hall, Jerry returned home to solid waste as the division manager. During his time with the City Jerry has obtained a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and an MBA in 2011 with the University of Phoenix. Jerry ran for Office as a council member for the City of Clovis in 2007 and attended the San Joaquin Political Academy in 2008. Jerry is active in his church, community, and currently holds a position on the City of Clovis personnel Commission as an appointed member. Jerry joined the solid waste family in December 2000 as the safety and training specialist. Within a short period of time he was promoted to supervisor and eventually promoted over to code enforcement as a housing program supervisor. After spending six years at City Hall, Jerry returned home to solid waste as the division manager. During his time with the City Jerry has obtained a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and an MBA in 2011 with the University of Phoenix. Jerry ran for Office as a council member for the City of Clovis in 2007 and attended the San Joaquin Political Academy in 2008. Jerry is active in his church, community, and currently holds a position on the City of Clovis personnel Commission as an appointed member.
