Pt. 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/gov-talk\/career-advice\/on-the-job\/fire-service-resume-good-enough\/attachment\/atlas-fire-safety-resume\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2848\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2848\" src=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Atlas.fire_.safety.resume.jpg\" alt=\"Atlas.fire.safety.resume\" width=\"435\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Atlas.fire_.safety.resume-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Atlas.fire_.safety.resume-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/a>Congratulations!<\/p>\n<p>You have made it to part 4 of 5 of your Fire Service Resume and we are headed down the home stretch.\u00a0 Soon you will have a deep and complete understanding of what a winning firefighter resume should look like and what information should be contained in the document.\u00a0 As you can tell creating something that shows the caliber and quality of person you are takes time and effort.\u00a0 I can tell you with great certainty that the time you are spending is well worth it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/gov-talk\/career-advice\/on-the-job\/fire-service-resume-part-3\/\" target=\"_blank\">Education<\/a> was the last section we discussed for your Fire Service Resume and it was fairly straightforward.\u00a0 In this section we will cover qualifications, certifications and licenses for your Fire Service Resume.\u00a0 These are the elements that show that you should be able to do the job of a firefighter based on the fact that you have done them before and have a qualifying document issued by an official agency that demonstrates your proficiency.<\/p>\n<h2>Qualifications are defined as essential attributes, abilities or accomplishments that make somebody suitable for a job as described in the job announcement.<\/h2>\n<p>You will need to have a copy of the job announcement with you to refer to it for these important characteristics.\u00a0 These may also be referred to as Minimum Qualifications on the announcement.\u00a0 Some examples of qualifications are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>18 years of age at time of application<\/li>\n<li>High school diploma or GED<\/li>\n<li>Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT)<\/li>\n<li>A U.S. Citizen<\/li>\n<li>Meet city or department physical requirements<\/li>\n<li>Valid drivers license<\/li>\n<li>Completed a pre-determined number of college credits<\/li>\n<li>Non-smoker<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are just a sampling of what may or may not be set as the organizations expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Certifications are designations earned by you that assure you can perform a task.\u00a0 They show that you have passed a legally defensible assessment of your abilities and have satisfactorily demonstrated the required skills.\u00a0 Some examples of firefighter certifications are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>State Firefighter I and\/or Firefighter II<\/li>\n<li>Completion of a certified fire academy<\/li>\n<li>Emergency Medical Technician<\/li>\n<li>EMT \u2013 Paramedic<\/li>\n<li>HazMat Technician or Specialist<\/li>\n<li>Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)<\/li>\n<li>Command and Control<\/li>\n<li>Rescue<\/li>\n<li>Apparatus Operators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Licenses are documents that grant permission to do something that may otherwise be illegal.\u00a0 It may give the authority having jurisdiction the opportunity to set conditions and limitations.\u00a0 Examples of licenses that you may need to have to be a firefighter are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A specific state drivers license<\/li>\n<li>A specific class of drivers license<\/li>\n<li>A paramedic license<\/li>\n<li>Some agencies may require a license to carry a concealed weapon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For our final segment we will be going over Community Involvement and Volunteerism in your Fire Service Resume.\u00a0 As we conclude this piece I would leave you with this, at each phase of the hiring process there will be opportunities to jump ahead of the pack and do the things that others are unwilling to do.\u00a0 Seize those opportunities, for those seemingly small openings will be the difference between you passing and failing, winning and loosing, getting hired and watching someone else drive by in the jump seat of that engine while you stand on the sidewalk.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to be in the jump seat, you need to do what is necessary and visit us at <a href=\"http:\/\/firealumni.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">FireAlumni<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Until next time\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnthusiasm is the mother of effort, and without it nothing great was ever achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>-Ralph Waldo Emerson<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations! Chief Atlas oversees almost $30 million in Local, State and Federal grants for training, apparatus, equipment and staffing. He is a former member of FEMA US&amp;R, California Task Force 4 and The CCCFPD Technical Rescue Program. He was hired by The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District in 1999, promoted to Fire Engineer in 2002, Captain in 2005 and Shift Battalion Chief in 2011 and is currently assigned to Battalion 8. Chief Atlas oversees almost $30 million in Local, State and Federal grants for training, apparatus, equipment and staffing. Atlas has instructed at the CCCFPD Fire Academy and other fire academies in the area. He is a California State Fire Marshal certified Fire Officer and Fire Instructor I. He is a former member of FEMA US&amp;R, California Task Force 4 and The CCCFPD Technical Rescue Program. Bob is a member of the East Bay Incident Management Team and assigned to the Operations Section. Atlas is also serves on The CCCPFD career development committee and is a Certified Oral Board Rater for the fire district. Bob is responsible for the fire districts fire apparatus committee. He has been coaching entry-level candidates since 1999 and promotional candidates since 2005. Bob is one of three Owners of Fire Alumni a leader in public safety training &amp; education since 2004. Bob holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from The University of Massachusetts and an Associates of Science in Fire Science from Mission College.
