Nicknamed San Marvelous because of its natural beauty, this vibrant Texas treasure is perfectly situated between Austin and San Antonio and offers an impressive variety of recreational choices, career opportunities, and so much more. As its population continued to grow, this small town in the heart of Texas drew our attention.<\/span><\/p>\n

People Are Flocking to San Marcos: Careers In Government Investigates<\/span><\/h4>\n

San Marcos was named the fastest growing city in America from 2013 to 2015, and we decided to find out why. Is it the low relative cost of living and favorable tax rates that are luring new residents and businesses in? Maybe it is the sensational music that fills the air or the young creative culture that\u2019s catching everyone\u2019s eye.<\/span><\/p>\n

San Marcos is catching rave reviews in virtually every aspect that people might imagine. For 2018, Forbes ranked San Marcos as the best city in Texas to retire. And since 2015 it\u2019s been ranked as one of the top 25 places to retire in the nation. The town was also labeled as one of the best places in the United States to raise kids, one of the most exciting small towns in the U.S., one of America\u2019s most affordable cities, the 10th most relaxed small city in the country, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike Austin, whose poor infrastructure has clogged up the highways and whose shortage of housing has made comfortable living almost unaffordable, San Marcos has planned ahead. With a low median housing cost of just around $267,000, compared to $400,000 in Austin, rent on a two-bedroom apartment just $1,169 (about the price of a studio in Austin), and an ordinance that covers the utility bills for recently discharged veterans, the growing population is no surprise. But over the past ten years, Hays County has invested about half a billion dollars in road improvements, and the Pickle Parkway toll road zips commuters through the region at speeds of 80-85 mph. Expecting the population to double in the next 12 years, the city is clearly planning for a prosperous future.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the saying goes, \u201ceverything is bigger in Texas\u201d, and small town San Marcos\u2019 has big city pride that insists that the well-know saying is right. With big city amenities, creative culture, and some of the best dining, shopping, and nightlife you\u2019ll ever experience, this quaint college town hits the spot for students, unique companies, and artists and performers. But although it made the list for the Top 50 Small College Towns in the US, and it\u2019s been named one of the 10 Best Cities for Singles, San Marcos is definitely not all about the younger, partying crowd. In fact, the area is known for long walks in the park, relaxing floats along the river, and some of the best coffee in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also one of the best cities for STEM grads, a wide variety of businesses and entrepreneurs are making their homes in San Marcos as well.
