{"id":3388,"date":"2014-08-14T09:41:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-14T16:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/?p=3388"},"modified":"2014-08-14T09:41:00","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T16:41:00","slug":"day-wife-met-girlfriend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/gov-talk\/career-advice\/interviewing\/day-wife-met-girlfriend\/","title":{"rendered":"The Day My Wife Met My Girlfriend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/gov-talk\/career-advice\/interviewing\/day-wife-met-girlfriend\/attachment\/young-elegant-couple\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3389\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-3389\" src=\"https:\/\/www.careersingovernment.com\/tools\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wife.girlfriend.schuber.jpg\" alt=\"Young elegant couple\" width=\"402\" height=\"408\" \/><\/a>Oh boy I bet this one caught your eye!<\/p>\n<p>Sorry to bait and switch you but this is about the job, or what I refer to as the mistress.\u00a0 I say this because, as with many of you, the job seems to get the better parts of me sometimes.\u00a0 It calls in the middle of the night to say there is a problem, or \u201cI need your help\u201d, or I just miss you (i.e. oh man I forgot to do whatever, you fill in the blank).<\/p>\n<p>The rougher side of this is when an attempt to involve your significant other is made.\u00a0 In the workplace a shirt and tie, wingtips, neat and pressed appearance are my mandate.\u00a0 There is always a sense of respect towards others with a return on that investment being of the utmost importance.\u00a0 For years, when I did drink, a work event in a social setting meant one and done.\u00a0 Enough to blend but not enough to be misconstrued.\u00a0 Let\u2019s face it I am another person who has obligations to be the professional, hardworking, loyal, standup guy they have always seen.\u00a0 When I was younger I lacked the ability to laugh at myself.\u00a0 Sure I made fun of my foibles but did not readily point them out to those whose respect I garnered.\u00a0 This is more about how I got over myself so the two people I am can live with the two loves of my life.<\/p>\n<p>My wife attended an event with me many years ago where I was going to be with some people who were influential and in whom I could develop my career (or could signal my demise), so I was apprehensive.\u00a0 It was a big deal to me.\u00a0 It was in my mind a signal that I was coming up in the world.\u00a0 We both got dressed to the nines and made our way to the party.\u00a0 When I arrived I introduced my wife around said hello to a few people and then sought out my host.\u00a0 She said hello and then asked me to tend the bar.<\/p>\n<p>I wasn\u2019t invited to be a guest, I was there to work.\u00a0 I only remember being crushed because I was seen as a great worker with little else in the way of social graces to fall back on.\u00a0 More importantly my wife was to witness it all.\u00a0 I apologized to her and said I was there to work but would leave her with some of my coworkers who were very nice people.\u00a0 They stayed near the bar all night so she could be near me.\u00a0 My wife was polished and is as friendly a person as you would want to meet.\u00a0 She was spoken of highly in my work place many times after the party because she just has a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room.<\/p>\n<p>After the majority of the guests were done drinking and the party was obviously winding down I excused myself and we left.\u00a0 All the way home I was having one of those internal dialogues much like Milton from office space mumbling something about burning the place down.\u00a0 My wife sensed my frustration and hurt and reached over to hold my hand.\u00a0 She then told me how proud she was of me.<\/p>\n<p>My outlook on my whole working being changed that night; now I include my wife in every chance I get to mingle with work.\u00a0 She keeps me centered and reminds me of who I really am and why I do what I do.\u00a0 For those who are lucky enough to have their own cheering section I say bring them with you all the time and happily introduce your wife to your girlfriend!\u00a0 Who knows the two just might hit is off.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh boy I bet this one caught your eye! Jerry joined the solid waste family in December 2000 as the safety and training specialist. Within a short period of time he was promoted to supervisor and eventually promoted over to code enforcement as a housing program supervisor. After spending six years at City Hall, Jerry returned home to solid waste as the division manager. During his time with the City Jerry has obtained a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and an MBA in 2011 with the University of Phoenix. Jerry ran for Office as a council member for the City of Clovis in 2007 and attended the San Joaquin Political Academy in 2008. Jerry is active in his church, community, and currently holds a position on the City of Clovis personnel Commission as an appointed member. Jerry joined the solid waste family in December 2000 as the safety and training specialist. Within a short period of time he was promoted to supervisor and eventually promoted over to code enforcement as a housing program supervisor. After spending six years at City Hall, Jerry returned home to solid waste as the division manager. During his time with the City Jerry has obtained a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and an MBA in 2011 with the University of Phoenix. Jerry ran for Office as a council member for the City of Clovis in 2007 and attended the San Joaquin Political Academy in 2008. Jerry is active in his church, community, and currently holds a position on the City of Clovis personnel Commission as an appointed member.
