Investment<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nA recent TinyPulse Employee Engagement Report found that the single largest productivity killer in the workplace is co-workers\u2019 lack of follow-through and communication, with 35 percent of respondents reporting this issue!<\/span><\/p>\nOur integrity is maintained with every kept promise. If we live with unrelenting integrity, we might create a trend \u2013 in our work team, among our friends, in our neighborhoods \u2013 where others embrace unrelenting integrity in their lives. While getting others to embrace unrelenting integrity is beyond our control, if we can move the needle a bit that direction, greater trust, respect, and dignity might occur.<\/span><\/p>\nJust take a look at the news headlines for a few days and you will likely see examples – there are cheaters all around us. Why do people cheat? <\/span>\nTo win.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\nTo gain an unfair advantage.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\nTo make more money.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\nTo look good.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nAnd so on.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
How do we eat this \u201cintegrity\u201d elephant? One bite, one kept promise, at a time.<\/span><\/p>\nAll the time.<\/span>Self-serving players in our midst don\u2019t always cheat \u2013 but cheating is always about the cheater winning and others losing.<\/span><\/p>\nWhat our nations, companies, communities, and families need today is unrelenting integrity. I define unrelenting integrity as the daily demonstration of kindly honoring one\u2019s service commitments to others. It\u2019s about holding oneself accountable for one\u2019s actions and promises and not compromising on their values or promises.<\/span><\/p>\nAnd it starts with each of us. We cannot wait for \u201csomeone else\u201d or \u201ceveryone else\u201d to embrace integrity as a core value as a way of living and interacting each day.\u00a0 We can\u2019t be casual about keeping our commitments or we\u2019ll miss an important deadline. If we miss a deadline, our integrity will take a big hit.<\/span><\/p>\nThe good news is demonstrating unrelenting integrity isn\u2019t complex. There is no club to join. There are no monthly dues required. There are no meetings to attend.<\/span><\/p>\nThere is simply you, making a bold commitment to make your promises clearly and keep your promises daily.<\/span><\/p>\nHow might it work? It would probably involve behaviors like these: <\/strong>\nEvery day, you hold yourself accountable for your commitments and actions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\nYou attack problems and processes \u2013 not people.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\nYou accept responsibility and promptly apologize if you jeopardize trust or respect.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\nYou align your:<\/span>\n\ndaily plans<\/span><\/li>\ndecisions<\/span><\/li>\nactions\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0with your purpose and values, in service to others.<\/span><\/p>\nThat \u201cin service to others\u201d piece is important. You could have strong integrity to your own, selfish gains! I don\u2019t think that\u2019s what this world needs of us inhabitants right now. The world needs a strong network of trusted players who work with \u2013 not against \u2013 others.<\/span><\/p>\nHow do we eat this \u201cintegrity\u201d elephant? One bite, one kept promise, at a time.<\/span><\/p>\nAll the time.<\/span><\/p>\n
