By observing others\u2019 plans, decisions, and actions, we can easily interpret to what degree they are kind and in service to others.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Your character is always showing! I define character as the moral or ethical quality that an individual brings to every plan, decision, and action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Today, what our families and communities and workplaces need from each of us is strong service character.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Strong service character means that a person demonstrates kindness and service to others in every interaction. The person validates others\u2019 efforts and accomplishments. He or she listens and learns, willingly, to help communities and relationships thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Each of us needs to demonstrate strong service character daily, with family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and even strangers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And, demonstrating strong service character is hard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Strong service character may require us to challenge our assumptions. Old ways and solutions may not apply in our workplaces or communities. Younger generations bring different:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Desires<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Goals<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Preferences<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Fears etc. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>Over time, these change how our workplaces and communities operate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Strong service character may require difficult decisions, having to choose between opposing yet equally good ideas, each with enthusiastic proponents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_video _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.0&#8243; People with self-serving character ensure they win while others lose. Their character embraces the \u201cthree D\u2019s\u201d &#8211;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Dismissing<\/li>\n<li>Demeaning<\/li>\n<li>Discounting others.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>They spend time and energy making themselves look good while making others look bad.<\/p>\n<p>Pay attention to character.
