Because recruiters have plenty of applicants who can do the day-to-day job. They want to see evidence of the results you achieved, how you improved existing processes, and how you took initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Compare the following two bullet points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cResponsible for creating and updating Excel dashboards and reports\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCreated new Excel dashboards and reports used by city officials to analyze spending, resulting in policies that reduced costs by 12%\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the second bullet point, we added specific details that turn a general statement into a much more impactful accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p>These types of achievement-based bullet points never start with the words \u201cresponsible for,\u201d which can give off the impression that you are someone who simply gets their assigned work done and calls it a day.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, they start with targeted action verbs that show how you took action, explain what you were able to deliver, and demonstrate where you can elevate generic statements such as \u201cincreased efficiency\u201d with specific numbers, and you\u2019ll make them that much more powerful (and believable)!<\/p>\n<h4>Keyword Optimize for Applicant Tracking Systems<\/h4>\n<p>Many organizations \u2013 including the government \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usajobs.gov\/Help\/working-in-government\/myths\/resume-scanned-for-keywords\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0use applicant tracking systems<\/a> to automatically narrow down an overwhelming number of applications into a manageable pool of top candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put, HR departments don\u2019t have enough resources to manually review every single resume that is submitted.<\/p>\n<p>Applicant tracking systems allow HR teams to make the process much more efficient by \u201cfiltering\u201d applicants using keywords (among other attributes).<\/p>\n<p>However, don\u2019t get intimidated by the prospect of automated screenings!<\/p>\n<p><a
